The Texas Horns :: EVERYBODY LET’S ROLL
|
|
Twenty-five years in the business is cause for any group to celebrate, especially in a specific niche often overlooked or deemed as a sideline. The powerful three-piece horn section of Mark ‘Kaz’ Kazanoff on saxophone, harmonica, and vocals, John Mills on saxophone, and Al Gomez on trumpet - The Texas Horns - have been featured as the ‘house horn section’ at dozens of big music festivals and on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, and have played on albums and toured with an array of renowned artists, earning Grammy nominations, Blues Music Awards and Living Blues Critics’ poll awards.
Their third album, Everybody Let’s Roll, is a testament to their years of hard work and genuine fun with thirteen tracks including eleven original compositions, including five instrumentals, and clearly establishes them as, not only “sidemen,” but also recording artists and songwriters in their own right. Special guests include Jimmie Vaughan, Mike Flanigin, Carolyn Wonderland, Carmen Bradford, Johnny Moeller, Marcia Ball, Anson Funderburgh, Mike Zito, Guy Forsyth, and Michael Cross.
Lone Star state blues woman, Carolyn Wonderland, belts out the autobiographical opening track “Everybody Let’s Roll,” recounting the history and sacred musical mission of The Texas Horns, then Mike Zito leads the ensemble with his gritty vocal on track two. There’s zippy jump blues, funky New Orleans beats, spicy dance numbers, a 70’s horn funk showstopper, slinky blues, hard swing, salsa flavors, funky instrumentals, boogie-woogie piano and classic blues.
All in all, Everybody Let’s Roll is a masterwork production from an iconic group.
