Photo Moments with the 20th Annual BFG Magazine!
Nothing like being stopped in the buffet food court onboard the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise to pose with the Blues Festival Guide magazine! But downhome bluesman (Clarence) Fillmore Slim here was a good sport and always had a smile whenever I would see him onboard.

Slim was a special guest with many artists, primarily Rick Estrin & The Nightcats it seemed. Rick always was so respectful raving about Slim each time he introduced him, saying he'd been playing with Slim since he was 15 years old coming up in the San Francisco Bay Area before the Nightcats. Was a treat to see these sharp dressed, hip men on stage together,

Breezy Rodio :: UNDERGROUND BLUES
”Breezy is one of the most unique guitar players I’ve worked with — he’s a rising star in the blues world!”… Anson Funderburgh

Guitarist Breezy Rodio is a classic example of someone born in the wrong era and even in the wrong country. As the Italian born blues, soul, and reggae guitarist, who made his way to America and forged a career in The Windy City, truly has the heart of an authentic bluesman whose style and songwriting skills are from the golden era of Chicago Blues of the 1950’s and 60’s when giants like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy and Elmore James walked the streets of the West and South side neighborhoods. Emigrating to the state in the early 2000’s Rodio played behind Chicago bluesman Linsey Alexander for a decade before cutting his own debut album in 2011 and signing with Delmark in 2018. Rodio has followed the formula of Chicago blues based on the sound of electric guitar and harmonica, a solid rhythm section of drums and electric bass guitar paired with piano and B3 organ combined with heartfelt natural songwriting and real-life storytelling.

In March 2022 Breezy partnered with Texas guitar legend Anson Funderburgh to produce and record his latest album, Underground Blues at Wire recording in Austin for WindChill Records. The fourteen original tracks that Funderburgh calls "Chicago West Side Modern Blues," were captured live off the floor as showcased in the official video for the title track. Rodio testifies to his struggle under the yolk of the Covid lockdown, utilizing the familiar Magic Sam motif of alternating from straight to swing grooves to create the dynamic tension that only a seasoned songwriter would know.

Just in Case: Nov 23, 2022 is "National Jukebox Day." This day always falls on the 4th Thursday of November which is the day before Thanksgiving. Jukeboxes helped artists find a new way to get public exposure and were further enabled to sell vinyl. They allowed people to pick out their own faves and enjoy music in restaurants and bars. I'm sure we all have some  fun memories of flipping through all the choices and picking favorites on the variety of jukeboxes, whether large or tabletop. Some jukeboxes truly look like a work of art in themselves, let alone the treasures they might hold.

 Hola, bonjour, zdravo, guten tag, konnichiwa, pryvit, shalom, aloha, hallo, namaste...
"World Hello Day" is November 21 and celebrated by 180 countries to illustrate the importance of personal communication for preserving peace. This unofficial holiday was created in 1973 with the hope that people can settle their differences with communication rather than conflict. The day encourages people to participate by simply saying ‘hello’ to at least 10 friends, families and strangers. Maybe take the time to learn how to say hello in a couple of different languages and put that into practice during the day.
