*As a friendly reminder, and to hopefully help this situation, please remember to set up your spam filters to allow mail from the info@BluesFestivalGuide.com and eguide+bluesfestivalguide.com@mnb.email to ensure delivery.

NC Blues Week starts Saturday May 13 + 37th Annual Carolina Blues Festival May 20
|
(GREENSBORO, NC) - The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society (PBPS) announces NC Blues Week beginning Saturday May 13 and the 37th Annual Carolina Blues Festival: Origination on Saturday, May 20th at LeBauer Park in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina. Tickets are on sale now at the website and start at $50 for general admission with VIP tickets at $75, or $85 which include premium seating. Lineup includes Charlie Musselwhite, Callie Day (Gospel), Little Pink Anderson, Sandra Hall featuring the King Bees, Kat Riggins, the Wezo Trollinger Band, and Mama & The Ruckus.
PBPS president Atiba Berkley states, “The theme ‘Origination’ was chosen for the Carolina Blues Festival by the board of trustees to acknowledge and honor the spirit of originators of blues music and participants of blues culture. The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society launched the Carolina Blues & Gospel Festival in 1985 in the parking lot of the Friends Motor Lodge. To honor this legacy, PBPS has programmed an eclectic lineup of performers that demonstrates the variety of blues music performances with the intent to grow interest in and understanding of blues culture.” The 37th Annual Carolina Blues Festival affords a unique opportunity to observe the range and depth of blues that inspired generations of blues players and was the beginnings of popular music as we know it today.
NC Blues Week cultural programming includes a formal proclamation from the Greensboro Mayor's office, community blues jams, virtual events, mural dedications, and concerts in various venues.

Mississippi Macdonald :: HEAVY STATE LOVING BLUES
|
|
British musicians have long had a burning passion for American roots music and none more than three-time British Blues Award nominee, Mississippi MacDonald, who earned his moniker for displaying his love for the blues at an early age. The guitarist/singer songwriter with a whiskey-soaked baritone doesn’t waste time on his latest album, Heavy State Loving Blues, launching into a tight Chicago Blues rebuke of “would be” music fans on the horn driven opening number “Howlin’ Wolf,” emphasizing his point with sharp guitar leads. Mississippi MacDonald’s eighth album, his second on APM Records, is once again produced by Phil Dearing and features two inspired cover songs and eight great new originals. Lucy Dearing soulful backing vocals, give many tracks a notable real depth.
The title track is a chunk of Hi Records Soul that could have come from the Al Green catalog. Acclaimed vocalist and Memphis scion Vaneese Thomas joins MacDonald for the fiery duet “Blind Leading The Blind,” followed by the spacious soul number “Heading South,” and the smooth burning “(I Ain’t Gonna) Lie No More.”
The first cover song is a pure rundown of O.V Wright’s “I’ve Been Searching,” from his 1973 Memphis Unlimited album delivered as a loving tribute. The emotional blues ballad “I’ll Understand,” finds him digging deep into his softer side. The country tune “Trouble Doing The Right Thing,” from Zack Logan is remade here as an easy-going blues ramble. The mysterious tome “The Devil Wants Repayment,” has a lazy bayou feel and a touch of voodoo charm. MacDonald confesses that he played a Fender Albert Collins Telecaster so naturally he was moved to write “Blues For Albert,” on which he professes the origin of his obsession and the devotion to the art as a blues benediction to close.
“Mississippi MacDonald represents the next generation of great guitarists, who hail from the UK. … wholly authentic, he’s earned the right to claim the name.” Living Blues

Just In Case... plus Holidays & Birthdays
|

B. Hutto (1926-1983), Mike Finnegan (1945-2022); April 27-Ann Peebles (1947), Michael Ledbetter (1985-2019); April 29-Big Jay McNeely (1927-2018), Otis Rush (1935), Frankie Lee (1941), April 30-Rev. Gary Davis (1896-1972), Mabel Scott (1915-2000), Frankie Lee Sims (1917-1970), Jimmie Lee Robinson (1931-2002)
Just in Case: April 14-23 is "National Dance Week." Early dance dates back to 3300 B.C. Dancing is a natural reaction to your body's senses. Music makes us move, we can't deny it, so don't be shy. Get out and groove with the music... it's not a contest. The moves can be improvised or purposefully selected such as swing dance moves. According to a study (by somebody), Jazz is the most popular style of dance among dancers, but let's talk about about swing dancing, and blues dancing. It's all in that vein. Drag Blues is a modern variation of Ballroomin' and Slow Drag, both close-embrace vintage dances, danced to the swinging rhythms found in Blues music. Dance is linked to rhythm, it's therapeutic, it unites people, and, yep, it's exercise. Get up and just do your thing.
