Do you ever visit the "On This Day in Blues History" link in the column to the right and after listening in, go on a deeper dig into the artist(s) who are featured?
I do occasionally and repeatedly find myself amazed at the achievements
of the featured artists. I have held a sincere long standing (since high school) interest in Paul Robeson. Why? Well, two reasons actually. Having been raised in the river city of Peoria Illinois, and embracing my first job at age 16 as a deckhand on the steamboat Julia Belle Swain drew me to all things river oriented. This was enhanced by a production of Showboat at my HS (1975 I think it was) that featured a young black baritone student singer who took on Robeson's role in the play and delivered a powerful rendition of "Old Man River" that was simply mesmerizing. Would love to hear from readers about the blues history you have learned from the "On This Day" website/Facebook page. And don't forget, though we post the Friday version here, the website offers a new featured
artist (or artists) every day!
Articles are returning this week featuring the article containing information about the Kansas City Blues Society's annual fundraising raffle of a set of tickets for the January 2024 Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. Who couldn't get excited about a Caribbean Cruise in the middle of winter! We also continue to feature the call for newsletter submissions. We could increase the variety of articles and content if we had regular reporters or reviewers submitting for this newsletter. Please check out the article below to learn more about how you can get involved.
It's always important to say, this is YOUR newsletter! No time to submit complete articles? Why not consider sharing dates for your favorite artists? Often, some get left out when our newsletter is complied due to the listings not being included in the community calendars we use. Many bands have time challenges in submitting information and this would be a great way for fans to show them some love! Please send questions, information, feedback, and suggestions our way. Just click on Sandy's email address below.
We appreciate our readers and want
to see your ideas included!
