The Vermilion Parish School System has been awarded the Reimagine Innovation Grant in the amount of $810,000.00 to implement an extended school-day opportunity for middle school students. “Lâche pas,” as it is affectionately known, is a traditional arts survey where students learn about Cajun and Creole heritage through music, folk art, dance, French, history, cuisine, and traditions.
The Louisiana Heritage Connections course is currently being piloted in one Vermilion Parish middle school and will expand to include two more in 2023-2024. Upon the final approval by the Louisiana Department of Education, the Vermilion Parish School System plans to make the curriculum available to any interested school district throughout the State of Louisiana.
