COMMON KINGS ANNOUNCES FALL TOUR RENAMED TO “ROAD TO MAUI TOUR” PLUS JULIAN MARLEY AND SAMMY JOHNSON TO JOIN FOR SELECT DATES
GRAMMY-Nominated Common Kings Announces Fall Tour Renamed to “Road to Maui Tour” Plus Julian Marley and Sammy Johnson to Join for Select Dates!

Captivating fans with their seductive island rhythms and pop-infused choruses, Common Kings have embarked on their Fall 2023 Tour in support of their new full-length offering– ‘CELEBRATION,’ out now.

Today they are proud to announce that in part, the tour will be a fundraiser to support Maui recovery efforts for families devastated from the Lāhainā fires. A portion of the proceeds from the newly renamed Road to Maui Tour will go to the Kīnā’ole Foundation’s Road to Maui Fund. Common Kings kicked off their tour at the end of August in the Big Island with a special stop at Lāhainā for an impromptu performance for residents and aid workers.

“It is with humble intentions we express our immediate desires to assist the people of Maui during this critical time. Together we are coordinating efforts with community leaders and Maui based organizations to develop a Road to Maui Campaign dedicated to providing immediate support and sustained contingency recovery efforts,” comments Common Kings.

They continue, “We invite our fans, family, and network to join us in our endeavors to restore spirits, revive communities, and rebuild the historic city of Lāhainā. Existing plans are in the works to end our Road to Maui Tour with a community event in Maui focused around rejuvenating spirits and fostering community resilience.”

While on tour they are due to perform with a variety of bands including the renowned Jamaican band Steel Pulse. However, in a recent announcement, due to uncertain logistical and external challenges, Steel Pulse were forced to pull off of the tour with Common Kings.

Nevertheless, in a short amount of time, Common Kings coordinated with CELEBRATION album collaborator Sammy Johnson and legendary Julian Marley to join the Road to Maui Tour for select west coast and midwest dates! In addition, American Idol winner Iam Tongi and Jakobs Castle will be supporting Common Kings on tour too. To find out more information and purchase tickets (+ the CELEBRATION VIP offering), head to commonkings.com/live.

The Road to Maui Tour will showcase music and merchandise from Common Kings’ new album CELEBRATION, out now via Mensch House/Island Empire Records.

RASTAFARIAN CELEBRATION OF PETER TOSH’S BIRTHDAY FEATURING MARLON ASHER TO BE HELD AT THE ASHKENAZ IN BERKELEY ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13
Out Of Many One Productions presents the Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration. This annual celebration will be held at Ashkenaz in Berkeley on Friday, October 13 at 8pm. Featured artists are “The Ganjah Farmer” Marlon Asher, Kava Jah & The Remedy Band, Ras Takura Dub Poet, and Jahwarri. The Nyabinghi Drummers will also be performing ceremonial Rastafarian drumming and chanting, and the host of the evening is MC Spliff Skankin, popular reggae radio host from KPFA.

Peter Tosh was a Rastafarian and in keeping with his beliefs, the entire event will be performed by Rastafarians. The public is welcome to come and enjoy this pure Rastafarian ceremony with an exciting musical line-up.

Headliner Marlon Asher, the “Ganja Farmer” is a native Trinidadian and is the first reggae sensation out of Trinidad & Tobago who is now one of the most sought out artist in the country. His talent and ingenuity were released to the world in 2004 with his break-through smash hit “Ganja Farmer” which swept Trinidad & Tobago and quickly took over the Caribbean and the United States, Africa and Europe. Marlon’s 2nd huge hit “Ganja Cowboy” also made a splash on the Caribbean community. Controversial yet captivating, the two songs together are both considered instant classics and anthems for all who can appreciate the benefits of “Ganja” proving so with a combined total of over 15 million views and downloads.

Event producer, Carlton Campbell "Carl T", who is also Peter Tosh’s cousin and toured with him extensively in the 80’s, keeps the fire burning for Tosh’s music and message by producing this annual event. Campbell says, “We have tried to do it every year since 1988 but missed a few years, especially during Covid”.

Winston Hubert McIntosh, OM (October 19, 1944 - September 11, 1987), professionally known as Peter Tosh, was a Jamaican reggae musician. Along with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer, he was one of the core members of the band the Wailers (1963–1976), after which he established himself as a successful solo artist and a promoter of Rastafari. He was murdered in 1987 during a home invasion. His 1975 hit “Legalize It” became an anthem for legalizing marijuana and by Rastafari and reggae music enthusiasts. Tosh was active in opposing South African apartheid.

The Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center is located at 1317 San Pablo Avenue in  Berkeley, CA. This is all- ages event.
