One of the significant focuses of most blues societies (including Ozark Blues Society) is using available resources to raise up the future of blues. This can be in the form of supporting an "undiscovered" local or regional adult based band as we do through our Blues Challenge, but we also try to keep our eyes open for undiscovered young blues talent. We come along side them and lift them up by helping them develop their raw talent as well as seeking opportunities for them to share their passion. This is a major application of YOUR financial
support! (more about that later)
Many of you have been following the rise of recent young blues players such as Christone Kingfish Ingram, Artur Menezes, Jontavious Willis, Ally Venable, Marcus King, and Grace Kuch. Ozark Blues Society is excited to come along side young Rogers Bluesman, Chyrell Stanley. Read on below to find out more about him.
Returning this week is an article about the hot blues performance coming up on November 11th featuring international blues harmonica player and former NWA resident, RJ Mischo. He is bringing his dynamic performance to the Music Depot on Saturday night. Read on below for more information about RJ. Also returning this week is another week of awesome blues history from Jimbo "Big Train" Madson. And be sure and keep an eye on our calendar. Along with RJ on the 11th, there are still a number of awesome blues performers visiting NWA in the upcoming weeks.

The Future of the Blues
Meet Chyrell Stanley
|
Chyrell is a 19 year old aspiring guitarist upon the rise! He currently resides in the town of Rogers,Arkansas where he was born and raised. Chy, as he is sometimes called, is a former student of the Arkansas Arts Academy and a 2023 graduate
of Rogers High School. Chyrell's earliest passion was basketball. He enjoyed success, including being named the 2021 All Conference Champion! Basketball however brought Chy his first case of the blues when in his junior year of high school his journey veered away from Basketball. As he navigated this unwelcome change he encountered Mr. David Singleton, a guitar instructor who introduced Chyrell
to the communicating his feelings using music...especially the blues. Chy began daily mentorship with
Mr Singleton at the Arts Academy in Rogers. Through this mentorship, Chy found inspiration in the music he was discovering, especially the music of one of the greatest artists of our time, Stevie Ray Vaughn, which drew Chyrell into seeking to discover even more about the blues. SRV remains as one of Chy's most powerful influencers. Stevie's story inspires others and his playing style was not only energetic but infused with passion and that is why Chy considers him one of the greatest! Other artists who have inspired Chyrell are Eric Gales, Jimi Hendrix, the “three kings” BB, Albert, and Freddy. Last but not least of his guitar idols is Carlos Santana. Chyrell finds Santana to be an incredible lead guitarist who is distinguished by
his signature and unique style sustaining individual notes. As he seeks new opportunity, Chyrell recognizes he has only performed in public only a handful of times. When his basketball playing ended, Chyrell performed VooDoo Child as a parting gift to the school board and was greeted with a standing ovation from faculty, students, friends, and family. Recently, Chy has had some performance opportunities arise. Chy played at Faychella and Fright Night in Fayetteville as well as having a chance to perform and share the blues with a crowd one evening
at Kingfish Pub and at BC's Juke Joint both in Fayetteville. He joined a jam at the Ozark Society Blues Blues Challenge, where many of you saw him a few weeks ago. Chyrell will be sponsored by Ozark Blues Society to represent NWA at the IBC 2024 Youth Showcase. Chyrell persistently practices his love of guitar to pursue his passion with purpose for the blues! His explosive melodic lines and chords enhance the energy found in blues, jazz, funk, and R&B. Not only identifying as a blues musician, Chys style incorporates many different musical styles. Chyrell is determined to use his talent to help define the blues and help keep the blues alive for the upcoming generation.

Saturday Night! Blues Harmonica Master RJ Mischo
|
You don't want to miss this talented Blues Harp player!
Saturday, November 11, 2023 @ 7pm
At the Music Depot in Rogers
**********
RJ's Bio shares: RJ Mischo is considered by critics and fans worldwide to be in the upper echelon of today’s great Blues Harmonica players, singers & songwriters. RJ leads his bands with a confident, undeniable foot stomping groove. RJ started playing Harmonica at the age of ten. With a deep passion and commitment to Blues Music, by age 19 he was working as a full-time professional musician. He began his career in the fertile Blues Music Scene of Minneapolis & St. Paul, Minnesota. “Mischo’s magnificent tone, formidable chops, and affable, self-assured vocals...” make him a top entertainer; the kind of entertainer that only 30 years of touring experience will bring to the stage. RJ Mischo cut his teeth in the early 80’s with the legends of the Twin Cities’ Blues scene Percy Strother, Mojo Buford, Sonny Rogers, & Lazy Bill Lucas. He then formed “Blues Deluxe” quoted by the Minneapolis Star Tribune as “Minnesota’s hardest working Blues Band”. It was in 1992 that RJ caught the attention of Blues fans worldwide with the release of Ready to Go. This album is now of cult status amongst collectors. In 1997 RJ Mischo moved to California where he continued to grow & develop his skills. He established himself with a wider audience via a prolific performance schedule at major venues and festivals across the United States, Europe and extensively up and down the West Coast.
