2024 International Blues Challenge winners
|
(MEMPHIS, TN) - Braving the cold weather but teaming with talent and excitement last week, Memphis was indeed and thankfully heated up with hot blues permeating from The Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge (IBC) week doings.
The IBC Finals were held at the beautiful, historic Orpheum Theater Jan 20 and here is the outcome of the world renowned "cutting contest."
SOLO/DUO DIVISION
Winner: Joe Waters
Guitarist, singer harmonica man Joe Waters represented Columbus Blues Alliance
2nd Place: Drum & Dye
Harmonica man and singer John Paul Drum and guitarist Bill Dye represented the Kansas City Blues Society
BAND DIVISION
Winner: Piper & The Hard Times
Al "Piper" Green & The Hard Times represented Nashville Blues and Roots Alliance
2nd Place Band: The Stephen Hull Experience
Based in Racine, Wisconsin they represented the Paramount Blues Association
3rd Place Band: Mandalyn & The Hunters
Representing Indiana’s Blue Steel Blues Society

14th Annual Pigz In Z'Hills BBQ & Blues Festival Feb 10
|
(ZEPHYRHILLS, FL) - The Zephyrhills Annual Pigz in Z'Hills BBQ & Blues Festival is the Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce signature event. BBQ & Blues features a friendly Kidz Grillin' competition from 9am-12pm amidst a background of the blues music, hog calling contest, and a wing eating contest! The festival is happening in historic downtown Zephyrhills, Florida on 5th Ave. from 9am-5pm.
Blues band will perform 11 am-5 pm on the stage at Clock Plaza. The lineup begins with Ed Wright, followed by the David Julia Band, The Back Track Blues Band, and Berry Oakley & Friends featuring Mike Kach & RJ Howson.
The Cornhole Tournament will be located behind Zephyrhills Brewing Company, plenty of vendors will feature arts, crafts, and a variety of fun merchandise, the Kidz Zone is sponsored by Suncoast Credit Union and the YMCA, the Hog Calling Contest is sponsored by Boss Hogg Radio, and a Wing Eating Contest is sponsored by Hangry Joes Hot Chicken & Wings Zephyrhills.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. No coolers allowed and service animals only please. All the area churches and businesses are opening their lots so there should be plenty of opportunities for parking. The event benefits local youth and education programs. Come on out and enjoy great BBQ and Blues!

2024 BMA Nominees... join the Blues Foundation to Vote

(MEMPHIS, TN) - The 2024 Blues Music Award (BMA) Nominees were announced this morning. You must be a current member of The Blues Foundation to vote for the Blues Music Awards. Once you join or renew, you will receive a link to your BMA ballot. If you'd like to vote plus support the Blues Foundation, do it soon, as the Blues Music Award ballot closes on February 28, 2024, at 11:59pm CST.

Greater Allen County Blues Society Bluesfest
|
 (LIMA, OH) - The Greater Allen County Blues Society (GACBS) is celebrating their fifth annual Bluesfest at Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center of Lima/Allen County (7 Town Sq., Lima, Ohio).
GACBS are thrilled to welcome back legendary blues artist Sonny Moorman to the stage as their headliner. Another member of the original Bluefest lineup, the Joy in Music award-winning Will Freed with be back with a show packed with amazing original tunes and smokin’ blues. Young Connor Raines will also return. GACBS welcomes to the Bluestest stage blues vets, the Black Cat Five.
Minor Blues will be the preshow entertainment. They have been a part of every Bluesfest and it's always fun to watch these young kids get their feet wet in the live stage pond. It's going to be a great show.
