Blues News You Can Use!
Almost Spring?
On days like yesterday and today, it seems like it must almost be spring. But, discouragingly, the forecast is about to shift again with cooler weather and some snow coming in on Sunday and Monday. Thankfully it isn't expected to be anything like what we got on February 9, 2011. Not a favorite memory, lol! I am imagining that like me, all of you are ready for spring's arrival with warm days and the ushering in of patio season!
Since our January board meeting was preempted by our IBC Fundraiser, our February meeting this past week was mostly basic planning. We also welcomed three new board members. Please join us in thanking our new board members; Roger Thomas, Diane Rudolph, and Dawn Cate for their commitment to helping keep the Blues alive here in NWA and beyond.  We continued the planning for our upcoming annual meeting, elections, and music event on April 20. Watch for more information soon!

Articles from last week are back this week. Don't miss information about tonight's event at The Juke Joint Project at the Pryor Center in Fayetteville as well as the article about the February Arkansas Black Film and Music Expo also in Fayetteville. Join others celebrating Black History Month at these awesome events! We once again are featuring a couple new articles offering Blues lovers links to informative options to learn more about the music we love.

And, as always, don't miss the awesome weekly blues history article from Jimbo "Big Train" Madson.
Also be sure and keep an eye on our calendar. Perhaps you are not seeing your favorite blues artist or venue listed in our calendar? We compile listings from local community calendars for our partner artists and venues throughout the area. Remember, artists and fans alike may send us blues event listings that may not appear in the community calendars. Just email SANDY to share
listings that include performances occurring from next weekend through the following weekend.
It's always important to say, this is YOUR newsletter! Please send questions, information, feedback, and suggestions our way. Just click below to email Sandy.
We appreciate our readers and want
to see your ideas included!

TONIGHT!
at the Juke Joint Project     in Fayetteville
Sav Madigan
** The following was shared by
 the Music Education Initiative**
Sav Madigan of The Accidentals will perform at the Juke Joint Project at the Pryor Center on the square in Fayetteville on February 9th at 6 pm.

Sav is working through a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to talk about being in the music business and resiliency. How life is about being in the present, and being present is about gratitude. These things help one become resilient.
She will play songs from the Mockingbird Suite album and
The Accidentals' catalogue that back up what she speaks of during her tour workshops and performances.
In anticipation of Sav’s debut album, Mockingbird Suite, coming out this year, Sav is soloing the country talking about the songs, the craft,
and the inspiration. “Twelve years
of touring 200+ shows a year
leaves a tattoo on one’s soul.
The road feels like an endless
stretch of time. It began when I was sixteen and I am twenty-eight now. I’ve been on the opposite schedule
of everyone I love for as long as I
can remember, an observer of life
and the people that inhabit it,
a witness to the human condition in its most vulnerable form. There is
no way to be complacent in the
ever-changing dynamic of people
and places, crisis, and joy in equal measure. This album is about empowerment, self-love,
gratitude, being present, resilience, and success.”

Hangnail's Hollers
Stories From the Blues
By Hangnail Slim
Blues lovers! Here in our newsletter we love to share ideas for how you can learn and enjoy more about the Blues. This week we bring you another new opportunity, a Substack newsletter written by Hangnail Slim.
Going forward, please keep an eye on the column to the right where we will be adding links to these cool resources.
Check out the following excerpt from his first issue:
"You’re getting this newsletter because you love the blues. I love
it too. One of my favorite blues songs is 'Trouble in Mind,' the Sister Rosetta Tharpe version. It captures
everything great about the genre;
it’s all there in the words and the way Sister Rosetta sings them. There’s something compelling about hearing, rendered in pristine gospel tones, lyrics that veer away from the hopeful spirit of Sunday morning:
I'm gonna lay my head
On some lonesome railroad line
And let that 2:19 train
Pacify my mind
Trouble in mind, I'm so blue
I've almost lost my mind
Sometimes I feel like living
And sometimes I feel like dying..."

You can here the song "Trouble in Mind" by Sister Rosetta Tharpe
