Biscuits & Blues getting close!!
|
(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) - Biscuits & Blues recently announced their reopening date of May 15, 2024 and shared a message.
"To our fans and beyond: We have begun the road to recovery since October 2023. Although it was unfortunate that there were more obstacles and unexpected road blocks than we can handle, none were enough to dent our spirit and our effort to reopen Biscuits And Blues back up.
Currently our contractors are working hard to repair and restore our place back to normal. Please support us by signing up on our email list so you'll be the first to be notified of our grand reopening and future lineup."
Sign up on their mailing list here for updates.
Biscuits & Blues is located at 401 Mason St. at Geary in the heart of San Francisco's theater district. They are just one block from the world famous Union Square, several cable car lines, and within walking distance of the Powell Street Bart Station. They are also easily accessible by both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oakland Bay Bridge.
We look forward to their triumphant return soon and reviving their hosting of world-class blues performances.

(CLARKSDALE. MS) - McKinley Morganfield a.k.a. Muddy Waters (born April 4, 1913) grew up on Stovall Farms, outside Clarksdale, Mississippi where he learned Delta blues from Son House and Robert Johnson.
In 1941, he was recorded by Alan Lomax for the Library of Congress which sparked his move to Chicago to become a professional musician. The rest is music history, from creating now-classic Chicago electric blues to influencing an entire generation of rock legends.
You can hear the sound that shook the world of popular music in these vintage, hard-to-find recordings, along with other Muddy souvenirs, from posters pins, all available in the Delta Blues Museum Gift Shop.
Shop online now through the end of April at the museum gift shop and get 10% off any "Muddy Merch" with the code MUDDY2024.

Canned Heat :: FINYL VINYL
|
|
Legendary blues rockers Canned Heat are back with a new album Finyl Vinyl, dropping April 5 on Ruf Records (CD and LP formats), nearly sixty years after the band was founded. Recorded in Burbank, California, long-serving drummer Fito de la Parra is joined in the studio by the band's current line-up: guitarist/keyboardist/singer Jimmy Vivino; harpist/vocalist Dale Spalding; and Richard "Rick" Reed. Guitar great Joe Bonamassa makes a guest appearance as lead guitarist on "So Sad (The World's In A Tangle)." Canned Heat first recorded this song on their 1970 album Future Blues with founding members Alan Wilson and Bob Hite.
The early days of Canned Heat’s history are reflected on the song "Blind Owl," a homage to Alan Wilson, which refers to his nickname owing to his extreme nearsightedness. The song was written by The Blaster’s Dave Alvin, featured as a guest guitarist and singer here. There are three compositions each by Jimmy Vivino ("One Last Boogie," "Goin' To Heaven (In A Pontiac)," and "When You're 69,") and Dale Spalding ("Tease Me", "You're The One" and "Independence Day"). Another track, "East West Boogie," presents an unusual musical mix with the oriental sounds of the "Theme From Tehran," a U.S. TV show, combined with a typical Canned Heat boogie groove.
Is this the grand finale of a long recording career with which Canned Heat say their goodbye to the music industry? The album title seems to point in that direction, since Finyl Vinyl can be interpreted as "final vinyl." On the other hand, the tour plan on the band's home page is already filled with dates for 2024, not just in the U.S., but also in Europe later this year.

Just in case: April 9 is "National Name Yourself Day"... a day to celebrate reinvention by trying on a new name for size. Studies show there’s a link between someone’s name and their personalities. Maybe pick a bluesy nickname for yourself if you're feeling it. Or you can Google "What's Your Blues Name" and use your initials and end up with something like ... "Jailhouse Bones Parker"... hummm? Better than one your big sister gave you when you were a kid like "Shelly The Belly Full of Jelly" for instance. Nah, pick your own cool name and work it!
April 10 is "Encourage a Young Writer Day"... most children are natural storytellers... stories can turn into songs... and there it is!
