Blues News You Can Use!
Thank You, Sandy!
Sandy McCann, our editor for nine years, has left the building! She is happily moving on to another phase of her life, and we all wish her every success and happiness. Sandy has been tireless and reliable in producing a newsletter every single week. It's an unbelievable record of accomplishment. She and Roy McCann have been major cornerstones in Ozark Blues Society's growth and public profile, and their contributions over all the years can't be understated. We are thankful for every contribution you have made over these years and you will be missed!

Seeking Newsletter Editor
Please see the article down below from Sandy about our search for a willing volunteer to edit and publish this weekly newsletter. She lays out the tasks very nicely, so please consider being a part of our Ozark Blues Society Team!

Juneteenth
Freedom Festival Returns to NWA
***Shared by Music Moves***
JUNETEENTH FREEDOM FESTIVAL
June 15th, 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM Shiloh Square in Downtown Springdale

Music Moves, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to make Black music and the arts accessible to both students and the entire NWA community, is thrilled to announce the return of Freedom Festival in partnership with NWA Juneteenth Committee, Interform, and Community Cohesion Project.
Now in its fourth year, The Freedom Festival is one of Arkansas’ largest commemoration and celebration recognizing Juneteenth, the federal holiday that marks the ending of slavery in the United States.  Freedom Festival is a day for Northwest Arkansas and surrounding areas to gather, reflect and share in a festival of music, food, and fun. The Freedom Festival committee invites everyone to experience the goodwill and positivity of the thousands who gather in downtown Springdale for what has become an indispensable, annual NWA tradition.
Over 4,300 people attended to enjoy the family friendly Festival with activations that included a kid’s zone with games and activities, a vendor market featuring local entrepreneurs and businesses, a live fashion show, giveaways for attendees, and an incredible array of musical talent featuring top names and nostalgic acts providing entertainment for the entire family. Last year, Grammy Award winning Bone Thugs-n-Harmony was the headliner of a top-notch musical lineup.
2024 Freedom Festival Music Lineup will include Soul Train Nominated R&B Artist “Donell Jones”, Iconic Funk Band “Cameo”, and Grammy Nominated Hip Hop Artist “Twista”. Several local and regional artists will open the festival.
Freedom Festival is presented by Music Moves in partnership with INTERFORM, The Community Cohesion Project (CCP) and the NWA Juneteenth Committee.  Foundation Sponsors include: Walton Family Foundation and Tyson Family Foundation.

A Chance to Support OBS Keep the Blues Alive
The countdown to transitioning this newsletter to an new editor and seeking a new person for the webmaster role is ticking down.
The OBS Board of Directors has plenty of skilled team members who can take on publishing this newsletter and filling the webmaster position, but they all wear many hats so are still seeking input from members or friends who might be interested in collaborating.
The newsletter editor role involves 2-3 hours a week, mostly on Thursday and Friday. The process involves updating articles and any items that require weekly updates, visiting local community and partner venue calendars to build the weekly event list, and finally sending the completed newsletter to subscribers and posting the link on the OBS website and Facebook. The publication process might benefit from collaboration by finding folks who would be willing to take on specific roles such as managing the calendar, and preparing articles. This would reduce the editor's weekly time commitment. Training is available.
The webmaster position is pretty flexible time wise. It requires a bit more time now and then when there are needed updates before and after events. Our hosting service has web builder software built in for those who like to design but don't write code. If you or someone you know is interested in either of these roles, please email LIZ LOTTMANN
