Drum & Dye :: TALL TAILS
Drum & Dye bring a unique blend of pre-war Blues, Jazz and Western Swing covering quite a swath of American music. The duo evolved over the past three decades from several well-known Kansas City Blues groups.

Guitarist Bill Dye is a formidable musician with over 50 years of experience as a highly sought after instrumentalist for recording and performing.

John Paul Drum brings his full-spectrum of harmonica performance augmented with his soulful vocals. They stand on the shoulders of great Blues duos of the stylings of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Cephas and Wiggins as well as Junior Wells and Buddy Guy.

Their release of Tall Tails in 2017 as The Big Three includes songs by Robert Johnson to even Tom Waits. The 15-song album covers the waterfront. Prewar blues, gypsy jazz, Western swing are all deliciously presented here in a gorgeous package. Included on four of the tracks, blues pianist Jim Beisman was brought in to add another dimension and authenticity to the songs. All of the songs were cut in one or two takes preserving the spontaneity of the music. This album contains all the elements blues connoisseurs will enjoy.

Tall Tails was recognized by the Topeka Blues Society as the best release of the year and submitted the for Best Blues album for the International Blues Challenge. Both Drum and Dye brought home awards from the IBC in 2024 for their work as a duo and individually: 2nd Place Solo/Duo; Memphis Cigar Box Guitar Player Award for Bill Dye and the Lee Oskar Harmonica Award for John Paul Drum.

The duo is also part of a super group in Kansas City known as The House Rockers made up of award-winning Blues musicians that play in the scorching tradition ala Chicago style and Kansas City swing. They present this distinctive style of music in its traditional form that is as fresh as its origins.

Gulf Coast Records signs powerhouse singer Lara Price and announces upcoming release
Mike Zito, president of Gulf Coast Records, announces the signing of powerhouse blues and soul singer Lara Price and the upcoming June 21st release of her label debut album, Half & Half. CD pre-orders now available here.

Now based in Austin, Texas, Lara Price recorded the album partly in Texas and partly in the San Francisco Bay Area, hence its title.

"Half & Half was a way for me to honor the San Francisco Bay Area music family, because without them I wouldn’t be able to keep up in this Austin music scene,” said Lara Price. “The other ‘half’ is a representation of what I have learned so far, as I have soaked up eight years- worth of Austin music. I feel like I am just scratching the service as to what the Austin music scene is about and I look forward to putting that experience on my next album. Technically, the album was recorded 60% in Texas 40% in California with 22 musicians and three studios in two states,” she added about the recording sessions.

“Lara Price has been a fantastic artist for years,” said Mike Zito in announcing her signing. “She’s so deserving of a national audience. Her voice is soulful and righteous and I expect our fans to fall in love with her.”

“I don’t think words can express how excited I am to be joining the GCR family,” stated Lara Price. “The caliber of musicianship on this label is humbling, and I look forward to rising to the level. Thank you, GRC for the much needed wind in my sails. See you at the gig!”

Joe Waters is Now Available for Booking
Singer and a songwriter Joe Waters, the multitalented musician based in Dayton, Ohio plays blues, funk, folk, and Americana music. Joe writes original music, and also pays homage to original blues artists by singing old blues standards and deep cuts.

His love for playing music started when he was 5 years old after his parents bought him a harmonica from the Cracker Barrel gift shop. Joe dedicated himself to learning not only the harmonica but the guitar, drums, jaw-harp and vocals. This talented and skilled young man has poured his heart and soul into his music for the past 20+ years, and has received well-deserved acknowledgment for his hard work and dedication.

Joe Waters won 1st place in the 2024 Solo/Duo International Blues Challenge held in Memphis, TN. He also won 1st place in the 2022 Telluride Blues Challenge held in Telluride, Colorado. When you hear Joe perform, it’s no surprise that he has earned both of those first-place titles. His love and passion for music flows from his performances.

Joe is currently creating music for his next album, which will be his second album as an Independent Artist. His previous album, In The Hot Seat, was recorded by his friend and fellow musician, Anthony ‘Saxtone’ Arrington.

Joe’s father, Jack Waters, has been a musician for 35+ years and Joe expresses his gratitude for his father starting him in his music career. As a duo, Jack and Joe have performed together for 20 years with 4 albums recorded. Together they have placed 1st in three local Ohio blues contest, and were semi-finalists in a previous International Blues Contest. Joe is continually deepening his connection to music and allowing music to flow through him. He knows music has the power to heal the heart and unite the people, and he hopes to keep creating songs that do just that.

May is Robert Johnson Month at Delta Museum
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - In 1938, Robert Johnson played at Three Forks, an establishment near a three-highway junction outside of Greenwood, an hour southeast of Clarksdale. As described by David “Honeyboy” Edwards, “Behind the Three Forks Grocery was a big juke house with a gambling shack in the back.” There, Johnson was allegedly given poisoned whiskey by a jealous husband who ran the place, believing the blues musician had started an affair with the owner's wife.

Read about Johnson’s legendary last gig in Edwards’ colorful memoir, The World Don’t Owe Me Nothing. Learn more about Johnson by taking the Delta Blues Museum's Field Trip, their Virtual Tour, and follow his life in our interactive biography in the “Explore and Learn” section of the museum website.

You can visit the location of Three Forks, which is now a vast empty field—the establishment was blown away by a tornado in 1942.

In Delta Blues Museum's Robert Johnson exhibit, you can see the actual sign from the Three Forks store—and purchase a replica from our Gift Shop. And the Museum has created an exclusive t-shirt featuring the Three Forks store sign.

Visit the Gift Shop during Robert Johnson Month at the Delta Blues Museum.

Shop online now through the end of May and get 10% off any Robert Johnson merchandise with the code RJ2024.
