Just in Case: May 31 is "National Smile Day" Go ahead, lift up your head and acknowledge your fellow human with a smile. It's a contagious. Watch people step out of their deep thought or funk, and smile back. It's natural juju. It does wonders, believe me! Bobby Blue Bland knew that when he sang "Love To See You Smile," and of course Louis Armstrong knew, "When you're smiling...the whole world smiles with you." Smiles, and yes, music... good medicine. (Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Johnny Winter at left).

oh and... June is "National Soul Food Month"... well that might make a lot of you crack a smile! Go indulge and even share some of that comfort!

June 3 is "National Moonshine Day!" "Making moonshine," one of the old-fashioned expressions for snuggling with a lover in the dark or going crazy with love, actually came from the fact those who made moonshine liquor usually had to work in the dark to help them hide from authorities. Moonlight was their only guide.

Released in 1924 on Paramount Records, Ma Rainey sang of her "Moonshine Blues," accompanied by Lovie Austin & Her Blues Serenaders:

My head goes round and around, babe, since my baby left town
I don't know if the river's running up or down
But that one thing certain is, mama's going to leave town
You'll find me reeling and a-rocking, howling like a hound
Catch the first train that's running Southbound...
