First came the music — then the legend
|
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - Songs like “Smokestack Lightning,” “Moanin’ at Midnight,” “Evil,” “The Red Rooster,” and “Killing Floor” were as super-sized as Wolf’s six-foot six, nearly 300-pound presence.
Schooled by Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Johnny Shines and Son House, Wolf transformed acoustic Delta blues into electric Chicago blues, creating a legacy as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time.

Steve Howell & The Mighty Men :: 99 ½ WON'T DO
|
|
Texas troubadour Steve Howell & The Mighty Men return with another round of superb renditions of songs with classic melodies that run the gamut of gospel, blues, pop, jazz, and soul on their fifth album, 99 1/2 Won’t Do. The ten-song collection finds the quartet doing what they do best, working the angles, fleshing out the depths of each song, and playing them with love and sincerity.
Howell is joined once again by Jason Weinheimer, the one-man army, who recorded, produced, engineered, and played keys and bass on the album. The other mighty men are guitarist Chris Michaels and drummer Dave Hoffpauir, who all take pride in playing vintage instruments to create that sweet sound and unmistakable cool vibe.
From the smooth grooving opening track, “I’m A Little Mixed Up,” to the finale of the spaghetti western anthem “Apache,” Steve Howell & The Mighty Men know how to mine for great tunes and pick surprising selections on another fine album of interesting compositions.

Just in Case: June 9th is "National Donald Duck Day"... yep, I don't make this stuff up. And I just had to share this old rumor that in 1978, Donald Duck was banned in Finland for wearing no pants! Well, he WAS 44 years old by then! HA!
There are a few blues songs and lyrics that refer to ducks. "Diving Duck Blues," John Lee Hooker's "Bottle Up And Go" (mama killed a chicken, thought it was a duck...), and hey, how about today's feature video "It's A Duck" by Mr. Sipp! Yep, now those "ducks" shoulda keep their pants on! HA!
