Eddie The Blues Man guaranteed to scratch your entertainment itch!
If you are searching for great entertainment and if you're looking for a show that's fire, then Eddie "The Blues Man" Wilson is the man for the job! His blend of soul and blues, married with his style of prolific storytelling, is truly entertaining!

“The band begin to play an upbeat 12-bar shuffle. From behind the stage curtains two scantily clad ladies, rivaling Bobby Rush dancers, strolled to center stage and slowly raised the covering to unveil a diamond studded “blinged out” rocking chair. I, along with the rest of the crowd, was awed by how the light reflected off the chair.

This unknown "Old Man Wilson" though not yet onstage, had my attention. In the midst of the audience’s captivation with the rocking chair, out comes ‘Old Man Wilson’ dressed in overalls and a hat resembling the one Paul Hogan wore in Crocodile Dundee. He is also sporting dark sunglasses and a walking cane to match the rocking chair.

"Old Man Wilson" slowly walked up to the microphone and said, “Can I get my chair to rock with me?” The crowd erupted as the chair began to rock with no one in it.

I have had this opportunity to experience Old Man Wilson “live and in living color” for myself and I immediately agreed to become his publicist. I thoroughly enjoyed his theatrics and artful skill of entertaining his audience.” - Terry Brown

Whether you call him “Unckle Eddie” or “Ol’ Man Wilson,” he’s guaranteed to scratch your entertainment itch.

“Low Cotton” is the first single on My Rockin’ Chair, his upcoming full CD. Click image to listen on YouTube.

To book Eddie Wilson's show and band, contact Terry Brown at 251-332-9577 or email.
Chicago Bound: The Great Migration of the Blues brings the blues to Chicago parks

(CHICAGO, IL) - The songs and stories behind the Chicago Blues will come to parks across the city this summer as Chicago singer, composer and bandleader Lucy Smith and writer and narrator Cheryl Corley present “Chicago Bound: The Great Migration of the Blues.” The concert is a celebration of the lives and artistry of legends Muddy Waters, Memphis Minnie, Willie Dixon, Otis Rush, Koko Taylor, Lillian Green and more.

Three public performances are scheduled as part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks: Saturday, July 6 at 6pm at Ellis Park in Bronzeville’s Douglas neighborhood; Saturday, Aug 3 at 3:45pm at Ada Park during the Morgan Park neighborhood’s Roots Festival; and Fri, Sept 6 at 6pm at Warren Park in the West Ridge (West Rogers Park) neighborhood.

Chicago Bound: The Great Migration of the Blues showcases the works of musicians who laid the foundations of the Chicago blues sound as they traveled from the Mississippi Delta to neighborhoods on the south and west sides of Chicago. They often performed at Chicago’s historic Maxwell Street market, where they created the electrified urban blues sound that came to be known as the Chicago Blues. Many of those talented artists signed on with the city’s acclaimed Chess Records label, leaving legacies that live on today. Chicago Bound chronicles that history with music and stories.

All performances of Chicago Bound are free to attend and appropriate for all ages. For more information about the artists and show visit here.
"The Blues Under The Skin" in select theaters by July 12
A forgotten, restored Blues documentary featuring B.B. King and Buddy Guy and many others, will finally hit select theaters after 50 years.

In the early 1970s, during a resurgence of interest in the Delta blues, music documentarian Roviros Manthoulis traveled to the Mississippi Delta to capture on film the remnants of the authentic American blues. Traveling throughout the deep South, Manthoulis filmed candid interviews and intimate performances by such legends B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Mance Lipscomb, Bukka White, and Roosevelt Sykes. His objective was to not only document the music but also penetrate the surface of the blues and explore the emotional and sociopolitical factors that make it such an expressive and haunting musical form.

Blurring the line between documentary and fiction, The Blues Under the Skin dramatizes the tumultuous relationship of a young couple (Onike Lee and Roland Sanchez) as they struggle to overcome the barriers of poverty and prejudice that keep them from finding happiness together.

Virtually unseen in the U.S., The Blues Under the Skin is a thrilling rediscovery, an untapped treasury of musical performances that not only captures this musical form, but offers a priceless glimpse of Black life in the rural South in the 1970s.

JP Soars :: BRICK BY BRICK
Brick By Brick, the latest album by the Boca Raton, Florida musician JP Soars is his first for Little Village Records and shines a light on his multi-dimensional musical talents. In addition to his base of blues-rock, Soars displays his affection for the influences of gypsy jazz, country, Latin, rock and heavy metal.

Standout tracks include “Things Ain’t Working Out,” a guitar-driven lament to a broken relationship while “Keep Good Company” features Soars on guitar and lyrics that reinforce the need to be watchful of your own conduct. Soars also does a masterful job on Little Milton’s “That’s What Love Will Make You Do.”

“Can’t Keep Her Off My Mind” is a supercharged, hillbilly-country rave up. Soars plays banjo and lap-steel on the song, with strong interplay with the rollicking fiddle of Anne Harris, and backing vocals by Annika Chambers and Paul DesLauriers.

Soars borrows from his gypsy jazz vocabulary on “Jezebel,” a sinewy beat that underscores the force of his attraction to an overpowering charm of a woman he can’t resist.

In 2009, Soars won the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge, including the prestigious Albert King guitar award. Since then, he’s been nominated for six Blues Music Awards, including best guitarist, best blues-rock, best contemporary blues artist, best band and B.B. King Entertainer of the Year.

Not every blues artist can create a cohesive sound in the genre by weaving in a diversity of other influences, but guitarist and vocalist J.P. Soars is obviously not just any blues artist.

"Things Ain't Workin' Out"

Correction: The headline for John Clifton's album featured in last week's issue #24 should have read TOO MUCH TO PAY (not TOO MUCH PAY)! And, believe me, that typo on my part certainly wouldn't apply to working musicians. Apologies.

Just in Case: "National Sunglasses Day" is June 27...Everyone appreciates a good set of shades... or even just a "cool" set of shades.

In the 12th century the Chinese wore sunglasses with lenses made from flat panes of smoky quartz. By the 1900s sunglasses became widely popular especially among celebrities... and musicians of course, even after dark. Sunglasses protect your eyes, but they may just be a fashion statement, or at night to avoid the glare of stage lights, or add to an allure of mystery, or as camouflage to cover up a tough night.
