August is John Lee Hooker month at Delta Blues Museum
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - August is John Lee Hooker Month at the Delta Blues Museum. John Lee Hooker was born Aug 22, 1912 near Clarksdale and raised in the Delta.

A multiple Grammy award winner, his best-known songs are blues classics, among them “Boogie Chillen,” “Boom Boom,” and “Burning Hell.”

Follow his life and times at the Delta Blues Museum's Explore and Learn feature about his “endless boogie.” Check out Hooker’s colorful history in a vivid biography, listen to CDs of his early and late songs, and wear your shout out to “The Boogie Man” with a JLH tee, all available from the museum's Gift Shop.

The Name Droppers :: STARSHINE
When a group of musicians is really grooving and having a wonderful time making the music together, the joy can be heard on every track. This is absolutely the case on the new album Starshine from the Connecticut based super group The Name Droppers. The founding award-winning rhythm section of drummer Bobby “T” Torello and Grammy-winning bassist Scott Spray, courtesy of Johnny Winter, are joined by keyboardist Ron Rifkin and guitarist Rafe Klein.

This 10-song collection on Starshine is a set of fire breathing blues, rock and soul as expected from these seasoned veterans.

Klein and Torello share the lead vocals on the eight new original tracks and two reworked covers from B.B. King and The Beatles. Special guests include Dave Lowrie on piano with Jonathan Dubose and the legendary Charlie Karp (R.I.P.) sitting in on guitar along with splendid background vocals from Simone Brown and Carol Sylvan.

Just in case: "International Youth Day" on August 12 focuses on the difficulties that some young people are experiencing throughout the world. This brings to mind an organization called "Playing for Change Foundation," a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world, and creating hope and inspiration for the future of our planet. The offer creative opportunities for marginalized and at-risk youth, most specifically in the developing world.

Music is a healer and there it is so rewarding to offer children music and a means to express themselves through it. There are also hundreds or Blues In The Schools programs and blues camps as well, often in at-risk and low-income areas. To see a child's face light up with music is a joy beyond measure.
