Welcome To Greenwich Town

“I, King Shark, grew up in Greenwich Town and it was a blessing.  All my friends like Earl Zero, Philip Fraser, Sylvan White, Tony Tuff, Donovan Joseph, Jonny Osbourne, to name just a few, inspired me to do what I do today. In the early 1980’s, Greenwich Town was the place to be, and these guys were the pioneers and the talk-of-the-town who brought Reggae to a whole new level, where people could dance, understand the culture of the lyrics, and appreciate the genuine quality of great Reggae Music. I have created this album to honor, celebrate and support my friends on our musical journeys together over so many decades.”

Roots & Culture Sound Clash

“All the artists on and everyone involved with the album were born and raised in Greenwich Town. We used to run up and down together, cook together and laugh together. Montego Records, LLC has been around since the early 1990’s and was originally, in the 1980’s, called Green Farm, LTD.

This album is an inspiration. The music and lyrics of these songs, and their messages will last for years to come.

I am so thankful to Jah that growing up, in Greenwich Town, gave me the chance to love and support my brethren them, like Earl Zero, Sylvan White, Peter Rankin, and now Ras Marlon.  It is such an honor to be a part of bringing their music and messages to the world. Blessings.”

Instrumentals To The Fullest

“This Instrumental album is so unique because it features musicians born and raised in Greenwich Town. Reggae Music is all about the players of the instrument for they are the ones who listen to your voice and make the music.

For instance, Earl Chinna Smith who started off with a homemade guitar with fishing line for strings, has been recognized as one of the greatest players of Reggae Music and contributed to almost all the great hit songs over the years, and he is an inspiration to the world.

Flaba Holt, of the Roots Radics Band, with his bass guitar and the way he plays those strings is a gift to Reggae Music. Paul Crosdale, another sensational guitarist, also from the Roots Radics Band, has been around playing his guitar with many hits for so many years.

Harry T Powell is a pioneer percussionist to be reckoned with, playing with the likes of Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and many other celebrated artists over the years. When Santa Davis plays the drums, it’s like the Angels, them, are calling for togetherness for all people.

All these players contributed to Instrumentals To The Fullest along with Reggae Music’s success over all the years. You will hear each of them add their own unique touches within this album.”

Green Farm All Stars

“This album features various renowned and celebrated Reggae artists and their compositions.

Artists like: Cedric Myton from The Congos, who’s been prolifically creating sweet melodies for decades; King Kong, with his very unique style of singing Reggae over the years; Kiddus I, who gives to Reggae Music cultural messages beyond compare; Admiral Tibet, a very special artist who sings with great inspiration and compelling lyrics; and Prince Alla, another legend, such a humble, inspirational artist and brethren, who used to come to my house on the Gully Bank every morning, knock on my window to wake me up and say, ‘Shark, let’s sing together.  You know you’re my little singer, right?’  We have all come a long way since childhood.  Enjoy.”

About Montego Records:
For most of his 67 years, music has been a focal point for Alphonso “King Shark” Henclewood. A proud son of Jamaica and the Kingston community of Greenwich Farm, the prolific artist/producer released four albums through his Montego Records in September.

These projects are special for King Shark as he worked with people he grew up with in Greenwich Farm, a working-class community in Jamaica’s capital Kingston that has a rich music history.

“I selected these artists because we have a history together.During the 1960s and 1970s, King Shark was raised in a Greenwich Farm, a seafaring community that was one of the hottest music areas in Jamaica. It was the stomping ground for producer Bunny Lee, as well as singers Slim Smith, Delroy Wilson, Cornel Campbell, Johnny Clarke and Prince Allah.

Those joyful times, and sounds, are heard on these latest productions from King Shark and Montego Records which is based in New Mexico. Enjoy!

For over 30 years, Montego Records, LLC has dedicated itself to providing a repertoire of original music to celebrate the spirit and soul of genuine Reggae singers and musicians. Whether one enjoys traditional Roots Reggae, Dancehall, or something contemporary and unusual, there is something for everyone in the Montego Records Music Catalogue.
