Photo Moments with the 22nd Annual BFG Magazine!
|
Ruf Recording artist Katie Henry is part of a new generation of talented and passionate young artists currently reshaping the blues landscape. The New Jersey-born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist broke out with On My Way, the critically acclaimed release that earned her a spot on Blues Rock Review’s list of the Top 20 Albums of 2022.
Her latest release, Get Goin’, shows off a whole lot more of what this intelligent and charismatic blues singer has to offer as she mines the rich musical soil of the 60s and 70s, mixing bluesy, soulful sounds. She’s backed on this album by the crack band of celebrated bluesrocker Bernard Allison (who produced the album and contributed a pair of songs). She’s also touring as part of the Ruf Records 30th Anniversary tour, together with Bernard Allison and Ally Venable.

Monumental tour is Testament to Ruf’s Commitment
|
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Ruf Records presents a monumental tour that will showcase the legacy of one of the most influential labels in modern blues history. The Ruf Records 30th Anniversary Tour, headlined by Samantha Fish and Canned Heat, with special guests Mitch Ryder and Bernard Allison, and a special performance by Ghalia Volt’s One Woman Band, kicks off Nov 7 and runs through Nov 24 at various East Coast venues.
Ruf Records has been a cornerstone of the blues genre, nurturing some of the most renowned and respected artists in the world, since its founding in 1994 by Germany’s Thomas Ruf. The 30th Anniversary Tour is not just a celebration of the label's past, but a testament to its ongoing commitment to preserving and advancing the blues tradition.
Headlining is Samantha Fish, one of the most dynamic and electrifying performers in the modern blues scene. Mitch Ryder, the high-energy, rock ‘n’ roll icon joins Fish as a special guest, bringing an added layer of intensity to her already-explosive set.
Legendary blues-rockers Canned Heat bring their longtime music pedigree to the Ruf 30th Tour. Their most recent release, Finyl Vinyl on Ruf Records, earned them a prestigious nomination for the 2024 Blues Blast Awards. Bernard Allison, son of blues legend Luther Allison, the first Ruf Records artist signed to the label, joins label-mate Canned Heat as their special guest.
Adding a fresh and modern twist to the tour is Belgium native Ghalia Volt, whose 'One Woman Band' has been turning heads. Her innovative approach and authentic sound highlight her dedication to preserving and evolving the rich legacy of North Mississippi Blues. Her most recent release is Shout Sister Shout, on Ruf.

Just in Case: "National Author's Day" is Nov 1st. Regardless of what time period or where they’re from, authors have always had the ability to teach, entertain, and move us. So what is an author? Well, historically and permanently, it’s someone who uses their words to move their followers. If you search online for blues books, you'll discover a plethora of authors. But let's not only salute authors of books that are historical, educational and fictional, but also of documentaries, movies and, yes, songs.
