Shemekia Copeland To Receive The National Blues Museum’s Trailblazer Honor Nov 17
(ST. LOUIS, MO) - On Saturday, November 17, 2024, the National Blues Museum in St. Louis, Missouri will recognize Alligator Recording artist, the eight-time GRAMMY-nominee and fifteen-time Blues Music Award-winning vocalist Shemekia Copeland, with their prestigious 2024 Trailblazer Honor. Copeland recently received three GRAMMY Award nominations for her latest album, the sublime and powerful Blame It On Eve.

Shemekia Copeland is a true embodiment of a trailblazer.

Then, just prior to Shemekia's performance that evening at City Winery, 3730 Foundry Way, a ceremony will take place on stage, with Nelson and others formally presenting Copeland with her award.

Born in Harlem in 1979, Shemekia Copeland first stepped on stage with her famous father — the legendary bluesman Johnny Copeland — at New York’s Cotton Club when she was eight.

Experience Hendrix Tour 2025 to feature many Blues artists
The Experience Hendrix Tour, the only official multi-artist celebration of Jimi Hendrix’s musical genius that made a triumphant return this year after a half-decade hiatus, has just announced its 2025 edition. Starting March 11 at Taft Theatre in Cincinnati and winding its way through the Midwest (with a stop at Toronto’s famed Massey Hall), the tour continues down the East Coast and through the South, concluding April 12 in Atlanta at The Fox Theatre.

The tour once again presents a diverse, star studded lineup for next year and features select dates from Experience Hendrix Tour mainstays such as Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Zakk Wylde (Pantera, Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne) and Eric Johnson, as well as Devon Allman (Allman Betts Family Revival), Samantha Fish and Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram. Marcus King is a first-timer for 2025 and is sure to bring a fresh, new energy to Hendrix’s timeless repertoire.

Among the other artists featured on the 2025 Experience Hendrix Tour are Texas blues sensation Ally Venable, Chuck Campbell and Calvin Cooke (Slide Brothers), vocalist Noah Hunt and bassist Kevin McCormick (both of Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band), Mato Nanji (Indigenous), blues guitar prodigy Mathias Lattin, Brazilian guitarist Artur Menezes, vocalists Dylan Triplett and Henri Brown, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble).

Chad Rupp and the Sugar Roots :: GATE C23
Chad Rupp and the Sugar Roots are back with Gate C23, their third album since 2023’s The Devil Won’t Get You and 2022’s Savage’s Life which both garnered rave reviews. This latest release continues the tradition of excellence they have firmly established, and also features another round of guest appearances from top Pacific Northwest talent.

On Gate C23, the Portland, Oregon group includes some of the brightest lights of the formidable Oregon blues scene, including Jimi Bott, Kenny Blue Ray, Mitch Kashmir, among others, and the three-vocal powerhouse of LaRhonda Steele, Arietta Ward, and Ms. Vee.

The title track of the album, “Gate C23,” tells the autobiographical story of Chad’s adventures while being laid over in Dallas Fort Worth airport while enroute to Memphis, TN to attend the ‘24 Blues Foundations International Blues Challenge. Due to an ice storm, all flights were cancelled and he spent a frigid night in the airport. In the end, he was saved by a concierge named Karla to whom this song is written about and dedicated.

The album features tight rhythms and musicianship, clever and accessible lyrics, and infectious, soulful vocals.

Just in Case: Nov 15, 2024 is "National Drummers Day." Drummers do make the world go round. They say drums first appeared in 5050 BC. Drums were the original long distance messenger. They are the foundation of a band. Drum circles can also be therapeutic not only to express rhythm and get in the groove, but to get in the groove with others while releasing your inner "messenger."
