MICAH SHALOM ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM - CONSCIOUS SOUND
|
(Austin, TX) – Reggae and Ska artist Micah Shalom is proud to announce his new album Conscious Sound is due for release on November 15, 2024.
The new project marks a significant milestone in Shalom's career, as he invites fans into a world of positive, socially conscious vibes and messages. Conscious Sound is a continuation of the instrumental roots of ska-jazz that have long defined Micah Shalom's signature sound. Shalom builds upon this foundation with Reggae and Dub tracks coalescing a mix of three genres throughout the record.
Conscious Sound was primarily recorded at Tall Sky Studios (Austin, TX) and features collaborations with New York City Ska Orchestra trumpeter/leader and former Skatalite Kevin Batchelor, Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar, and Austin-based Reggae band Lion Heights. Click Here to Listen/Download/Stream Full Album! Inspired by a deep-seated desire to foster positivity and awareness through music, Micah Shalom's Conscious Sound is a testament to his unwavering commitment to creating art that not only entertains but also enlightens. Shalom fearlessly confronts societal issues such as the need to end war through peace and unity, the global legalization of cannabis, and the systemic inequalities within the criminal justice system. Discussing the album, Micah Shalom states: “The title "Conscious Sound" serves as an encapsulation of all the music on the record. This group of songs are a call to the world to live in harmony and unity. To shrug off the hardships that surround us on a daily basis and to work for a better world. Something we can only do when conscious of the challenges we face, but optimistic about the possibilities and improvements we hope to attain.”
Starting in Gainesville FL in 2007, Micah Shalom formed a band of ska, reggae, and world musicians to play his brand of original and cover music from these genres. Over the years refining his sound to flow between all 3 genres seamlessly, encapsulating the audience to dance, listen, and enjoy the different beats and melodies. Now residing in Austin, Shalom has become a local legend in the scene. In 2023, the City of Austin proclaimed April 20th "Micah Shalom Day," recognizing Shalom's contributions to the local music scene and his dedication to spreading positive messages through his music. Shalom is excited to celebrate the new album with an album release show in Austin at Sahara Lounge on November 16th. The talented artist with the unique vocals co-produced the 17-song set with Andrew Campbell, his longtime collaborator. The album is 100% good, conscious reggae music; the lyrics and rhythms will appeal to children, adults and even world leaders. Four of the songs, "Any Little Man", "How You Cold So","On Your Side of Town" and "Turmoil", had been previously released.
According to the veteran vocalist, “Each track is different from the other.” "On Your Side of Town" has an interesting story. Morris filmed its video last year in Kolkata, capital of West Bengal state in India to salute his East Indian heritage.
“I am always thinking out of the box. I always knew that I am African, Jamaican and Indian, so I realized I had to find my balance and knowledge of who I am, so I can give more of me in my work,” Morris explained. “I chose Kolkata because it’s the city of joy, and I thought it was perfect to get this video done there.”
EARLY YEARS
Courtney ‘Elihu’ Morris was born in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital, and was raised in the working-class community of Craig Town which is a stone’s throw from the famous Trench Town where Bob Marley once lived. Craig Town is the birthplace of Shocking Vibes Records which put acts like Beenie Man, Tanto Metro and Devonte and Snagga Puss on the map. He has always embraced reggae music and culture from as early as his teenage years. His inspiration came from music stalwarts like The Stylistics, The Impressions, The Chilites, Billy Paul, Smokey Robinson, Alton Ellis, and Dennis Brown. These entertainers all possessed qualities that Courtney hoped to emulate.

ELIHU video PRINCE OF LOVER'S ROCK The Jamaican singer/songwriter was known to his US fanbase as the ‘Prince of Lover’s Rock’ however his name ‘Elihu’ was a biblical one. ‘Elihu’ refers to a man in the Bible who always spoke the truth. In 2016 he released his first EP called ‘The Evolution of Courtney Elihu Morris’ consisting of seven (7) tracks inclusive of ‘God of Israel’, ‘How Yuh Cold Suh’ and ‘Got to Be Me’, to name a few. The EP was a success in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada, building him a more diverse fanbase. His music is authentic roots rock reggae that speaks to several social issues plaguing Jamaicans. Elihu's love for reggae music resonates through his music. He said “Reggae is so powerful. To me, reggae is more than a genre of music, it is a lifestyle”. Elihu wants to be known for his mellow tone and lyrical prowess.

Is it good to meditate every day?
There's no way around it: creating a regular habit can help unlock even more benefits of meditation. In fact, research shows that frequency is even more important than duration — meaning, that meditating for 10 minutes a day, seven days a week is more beneficial than 70 minutes one day a week.
