Dear Alki UCC,
In this tumultuous time, I hear us bolstering ourselves and each other with powerful words, with blessings. I think that just about every gathering and meeting I’ve had with folks since the election has included some form of “We’ll get through this together.” It’s a reassurance and reminder that we are not alone. It’s also a promise, a pledge, that we won’t isolate or insulate ourselves.
Our upcoming Advent series at Alki UCC will immerse us in blessings with the words we need to hear again and again:
• You are a blessing • We can’t go alone • Do the good that is yours to do • Hope is worth the risk • Love knows your name • Don’t forget to laugh • The road isn’t straight
I wonder what words are buoying you these days?
This Advent, we’ll receive words of blessing like a quilt that tucks in around us and warms us on cold nights. We’ll remind each other of those words of courage, of liberation and of love.
In hope,
Pastor Emily

This Saturday!!
Community-Hosted Meal for
The Welcome Table Hot Lunch
November 30
Because WIN doesn't have a congregation signed on to host, the November 30 Welcome Table hot lunch becomes an all-community meal with many people chipping in to make it happen. If you are in town and feeling "some extra gratitude," please join us to help provide the meal and/or volunteer.
Needed: casseroles, salads, desserts and treats. Cash contributions are always welcomed to purchase deli chicken and fresh items for the food pantry.
We also need people to volunteer at the donation tables, serve food in the kitchen, pour coffee and hot chocolate for the guests and manage the food pantry.
Come experience how it feels to serve at The Welcome Table, a service project of the Westside Interfaith Network, and be present to this vital community!
Donations of both perishable and non-perishable food are always needed: cereals, canned goods, rice, pasta, peanut butter, snacks, ramen, tortillas, bread. Fresh veggies and fruit are accepted and received by the guests in full gratitude.
Please deliver dishes by 11:30 am, November 30 The Welcome Table is at the Body of Christ Church 1320 SW 102nd St in White Center.
Contact Cinda to learn more and to sign up.

Last Sunday
to bring in Plastic Election Yard Signs
for repurposing
This Sunday is the last day to drop off your unwanted plastic yard signs! The Outreach/Social Justice team is working with Ridwell to repurpose plastic campaign, yard signs and the metal stands.
Rather than throwing your sign in the trash, bring it to the sustainable cubby area in the church Narthex this Sunday, December 1.
We always accept: wine corks, plastic lids smaller than three inches, small batteries, bread tags, empty prescription bottles, standard size light bulbs and two types of plastic: Plastic Film (shipping bags, plastic bags, overwrap, air pillows and other stretchy plastics!) and Multi-layer plastic (food storage bags, pet food bags, frozen food bags, and more layered packaging).
We don't take plastic wrap like Saran Wrap. But any other stretchy plastic we do.
We also have dedicated cubbies for your donations of new socks,
underwear and toiletries. Keep them coming!

A Mindfulness Reminder:
Correct Trash Separation
|
Please take note of the new waste cans in the parlor ... courtesy of the Social Outreach team.
Look before you toss!!
Take a minute to confirm what goes in what receptacle. All our hospitality hour cups are compostable, and more often than not the all the tableware is also compostable.
Every week people put their beverage cups in all three bins. It would be so helpful if you dispose of your items correctly on the front end so our hard-working volunteers don’t end up having to sort them on the back end.

Ever-present God, we give you thanks. We give you gratitude for the relationships in our lives and our community of faith.
We give joyful thanks for Charlie H and Scott L who were married on November 11 and we join them in celebration. May God bless them in their life together.
We pray for all those who grieve.
Comfort their hearts and hold them close, especially Shannon P who asks for prayers on the passing of her beloved father, Rev. Bill P on Monday, October 28. Please grant all of us who knew him peace and strength in this time of grief. May we feel God’s presence and love, providing comfort in every sorrowful moment. Please guide his soul to eternal rest, and surround our family with warmth and healing light. Help us cherish his memory and honor his legacy with love.
We pray for all those who are ill, hurting or have a concern on their hearts.
We pray for Pastor Emily's friends Rich, Julie and Bryson, our Peruvian immigrant friends and for all who seek peace and safety in our country, for Sandy J's cousin Barbara, Dan K facing various health issues, Rev. Joan C, Cinda's mother Jackie S, Julia C's friend Jessie T and family, Amy Y's mother Corlene, Davney and Bob S, Sue's B's friends Mary and Louise, and Nick L.
We pray for our wider world.
Our hearts go out to the many people who are suffering in areas affected by natural disasters and the ongoing effects of climate change.
We pray for all the people and places in our world affected by war. We ask for wisdom for decision-makers and strength for justice-seekers. We pray for victims of violence, for refugees and asylum-seekers. We pray for all who are hungry, desperate, and in need of support. In all of these things, we trust that you are with us. In all of these things, we ask for you to strengthen us. Help us to see you in those around us. Help us to love as you love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

This Sunday!! Mulchers Needed at 1:00 pm
(No Experience Necessary)
|
Our side courtyard needs some love! This past summer we enjoyed its beauty and peace, and many of us were alarmed at how parched the soil is in the planting beds.
We must mulch for the incoming winter cold or we risk losing our beautiful trees and shrubs.
We're bringing in a load of mulch and would love your help spreading it all about on Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 pm. Dress to get dirty, bring gloves and shovels and a wheelbarrow if you can. See Cinda to sign up.
