Greensboro, NC - REGGAE FESTIVAL RETURNS WITH NEW NAME - Sept. 3-5
The music festival many call one of the Triad's best will return during Labor Day weekend, and this time, it has a new name.

The Triad Reggae OneLove Family Reunion was formerly known as the Triad Reggae Sunsplash. The festival will take place Sept. 3-5 at the American Legion post off McConnell Road in Greensboro. The festival represents the 11th year Roots Rockin' Productions has brought a bit of Jamaica to the Triad.

"Our baby is becoming an adolescent and, as a father, you always want to make sure you take care of your kids to the best of your abilities,' says James Hinson, who has organized the festival since it began.
"Reggae OneLove Family Reunion is our baby."

The three-day festival draws a few thousand music fans: young and old, black and white, individuals and families. The eclectic crowd comes together to eat Caribbean food, buy ethnic clothes and listen to hours of reggae.

The festival's headliners this year are The Itals and Sister Carol. Nine bands, including Truth & Rights, Lion Track and Jam Rock, will perform Saturday and Sunday.
Why the name change?
Hinson says a California company bought the Sunsplash name. So he and the other organizers had to choose a new one.

"I feel like this is the name we should've had from the beginning," Hinson says. "It's more spiritual, you know, and it's a time for family to get together and share their views on the course of the last year.'

The festival kicks off at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 with a dance, followed by music until 1 a.m. The next two days, reggae will be played from noon to midnight.

Once again, the festival will offer a multicultural carnival called the Children's Corner. It will give children a place to play games, get their faces painted and doodle with arts and crafts.

The few changes to this year's festival will be inspirational talks from various ministers and a Friday night performance from Wizdom, a Philadelphia band Hinson compares to The Dave Matthews Band.
``They've got that same energy, that same vibe,' he says.

The single LIKE YOU has catchy vibes and emits a feeling about putting positive energy into your love life. It brings fresh uplifting communication and compliments that can spice up one’s personal life.

The single will be released through TuneCore to all the major outlets. https://linktr.ee/cvsradio1

Jangahla Roots, a name that evokes a deep connection to the earth and its rhythms, whose music is rich and textured. The leader Jonzie hails from the vibrant and culturally diverse landscape of Belize District, Jangahla Roots’ music is a captivating blend of reggae and world beats.

Rooted in cultural and musical influences, e.g., Bob Marley, spiritual chants, Sly & Robbie soundscapes, Max Romeo and The Wailing Souls, Jangahla Roots music its soulful exploration of identity, love, and social consciousness. His lyrics, often imbued with poetic depth and raw emotion, paint vivid pictures of life's complexities while offering messages of hope and unity.

Jonzie states that their band, Jangahla Roots, has the same modus. It is a five-piece band with no one lead singer, rather they invite singers to front their band, much like Black Uhuru… but in the case of LIKE YOU, Jonzie sings his own song.

This single was produced by Michael Hyde and released by Kroffi Records. Jonzie’s son, Lincoln Roy can be heard rapping in the song.

REGGAE IN THE DESERT - Saturday, April 19, 2025 - Las Vegas, NV
April 19, 2025 - REGGAE IN THE DESERT - Las Vegas, NV - Legendary reggae artists Third World, Luciano, Skip Marley, Kabaka Pyramid, Aurorawave, Eli-Mac, Kyle Smith and more to bring their roots rhythm to the 22nd Annual Reggae in the Desert Downtown Las Vegas transforms into a Roots Reggae paradise with authentic fare, vendors & live performances.

For one day, Downtown Las Vegas embraces the Caribbean culture with island-inspired food and craft vendors as well as live performances from top reggae artists.

Third World is one of the longest-lived reggae bands of all time, and one of Jamaica's most consistently popular crossover acts among international audiences.

Luciano was heavily influenced and drawn to Bob Marley’s positive “One Love Movement”.

Skip Marley, the grandson of Bob Marley, is part of the legendary reggae family that also includes his mother, Cedella, and uncles Ziggy, Stephen, and Damian Marley, yet his own sound adds touches of contemporary pop, rap, and rock forms.

Kabaka Pyramid is a Grammy Award-Winning conscious revolutionary lyricist with a signature musical style, blending the power, energy and melody of Reggae with the lyricism of Hip hop. The name "Kabaka" is Ugandan for "King" and the long-lasting survival of the Pyramids of ancient Africa represent his desire for longevity in the music and deep connection to Kinetic roots, leaving messages for generations to come.

Exploding onto the music scene in 2024 with their self-titled debut album, Aurorawave has quickly become a rising force in the rock, alternative, and reggae genres. Fronted by the charismatic Nathan Aurora on vocals and guitar, Aurorawave blends the raw power of heavy rock with the rhythmic allure of reggae, creating a sound that is both innovative and captivating.

Eli-Mac’s story reads like a fairytale– it’s a musical journey which has turned into an impressive career that took flight with her debut release of her hit five-song EP, entitled Dubstop EP. A proud Filipino growing up in Hawaii, Ciara-Camile (Eli-Mac spelled backwards) Roque Velasco was a rebel early on, combining her island music roots with her love of R&B and hip-hop.

Reggae rock singer-songwriter Kyle Smith, from Ventura, CA, offers his blend of Southern California style reggae with Ska, Punk Rock, & Hip Hop that is catchy, truthful, and humorous.
