As
powerful as they are, reiki and other types of energy healing do not
produce instantaneous results. Healing is a process that is comprised
of all the changes taking place in your body as it works to reach a
state of wellness. These changes, despite their progression toward
healing, can often surface as symptoms that indicate the changes are
counterproductive. In other words, it may appear that you are getting
sicker or that your condition is worsening, when in fact your body is
working through all the energetic disruptions in order to heal.
As
soon as the healing process begins to take effect, your body will start
working at a higher level of efficiency. This essentially means that
the body is removing the bad to make room for the good. The liver,
kidneys, bowels, and even your muscles and skin are working to
eliminate toxins that have been stored in your bloodstream. As your
body detoxifies, symptoms often emerge in the form of a runny nose,
upset stomach, headache, fatigue, and other manifestations of what
seems like illness on the surface. But look at it like this: when you
haven't used certain muscles for a while they will ache after exercise.
This rule applies to other body parts and organs as well. As they
adjust to a healthier mode of operation, they experience what energy
healers refer to as the "healing crisis" - a crucial part of recovery
that indicates that you are in fact healing.
Here are some
words to live by: Be patient and don't panic. Even though certain
aspects of your physical or mental state may seem to be in crisis, you
must know that once the toxins, blockages, and harmful energies have
been released, you will feel better. Energy healing prompts the body to
follow its natural course of healing, and any discomforts that may
emerge in the process are simply part of that course. After a reiki
session, or during the course of several sessions, you may feel that
your condition has deteriorated rather than improved. Take solace in
the notion that "this too shall pass" and remember that while your body
is releasing toxins, it's important to drink plenty of water, replenish
lost nutrients, get lots of rest, and be patient.

Contrary
to what some people might believe, reiki is not aligned with any
particular religion or faith; rather, it complements and enhances your
own personal path (whatever that may be) because it gives you a more
direct experience of what you perceive to be your own higher power.
Reiki may feel spiritual, mystical, or even magical, but it is simply
unimpeded divine order.
The reiki path is all about balance, healing, and empowerment. It has
to do with revitalizing and balancing ki so that you can heal at the
most profound level. Energy healing releases powerful energies into
your body, mind, emotions and spirit. Those who practice reiki have the
capacity to maintain a high level of emotional, physical, mental and
spiritual health, as well as the balance and harmony that accompanies
those heights. Once you begin to understand and practice reiki, you
will be empowered to heal yourself and others for as long as you choose
to use this gift. This empowerment is strengthened and enhanced with
each level of reiki. That empowerment is further refined through
continual practice.
Using reiki just for healing can bring about life-changing
benefits. But people who wish to use reiki as a tool in their journey
to discovering the deepest essence of who they are can use this energy
as a vehicle that propels them to deeper levels of consciousness. For
both client and practitioner, reiki has numerous benefits that
transcend the tangible manifestations of healing, including altered
states of consciousness and spiritual experiences that result in less
pain, greater awareness, and a sense of renewal that can make you feel
as if you've been reborn. With reiki as a spiritual tool, love and joy
can become the norm in a world so often filled with the opposite. As
the light of truth flows through you it will dissolve negative
energies, revealing to you the truth of who you are. Reiki can teach
you that what appears to be a miracle is only unimpeded divine order,
the natural flow that occurs when we let go of illusion.

The
sixth chakra, or third eye, has long been recognized as possessing
mystical powers. Associated with the pineal gland, which controls
various biorhythms, the third eye is located in the geometric center of
the brain. The third eye is part of the spiritual body and not the
physical body, and is believed by some to be a dormant organ that can
be awakened to enable inner vision and telepathic communication.
The
true function of the pineal gland has long been contemplated by
philosophers and spiritual adepts. Considered the most powerful source
of ethereal energy available to humans, this organ of higher vision has
always been important in initiating supernatural powers and developing
psychic talents. On a physiological level, the pineal gland is
activated by light and works in harmony with the hypothalamus gland,
which governs the body's hunger, thirst, and sexual impulse, and is the
biological clock that controls the aging process.
When the energy of the third eye chakra is out of balance, any
number of outward emotions can occur: timidity and fear, anger and
rage, depression, anxiety, and so on. Therefore, it is good to be aware
of these imbalances so that the proper remedies can be applied through
energy healing. The following are symptoms of imbalance in the third
eye chakra:
Over-active third eye: excessive pride, patterns of denial, spiritual arrogance, and rigid or unforgiving behaviors.
Under-active third eye: lack of discipline, oversensitive nature, fear of using intuitive abilities, fear of success, or poor concentration.
It's
important to note that the third eye chakra is open to the wisdom of
all the other chakras. In light of this fact, balancing and nurturing
the other chakras is a good way to keep your third eye chakra open,
balanced, and healthy.

Six Tastes for a Balanced Life
|
We
all know that we eat to give our bodies what it needs nutritionally,
but are we aware of the importance of the flavors of the foods we eat
and their impact on our emotions and health? Incorporating each of the
6 tastes – sweet, salty, sour, bitter, pungent, and astringent – into
every meal will help you stay physically and emotionally balanced. Too
much or too little of one taste can throw that balance off. Here's a
quick guide to what each taste contributes when it is lacking or when
it is presented to the tongue (and body) in excess:
Sweet foods represent love, happiness, comfort, and spiritual growth. In excess, sweetness can make us lazy, greedy, and dependent.
Salt
aids in digestion and gives us enthusiasm for life. In excess, salt can
result in uncontrollable cravings and compulsive behavior.
Sour foods are good for the intellect. In excess, sour foods can result in envy and resentment.
Bitter foods make us feel more alert. In excess, they leave us unsatisfied with life.
Pungent foods are invigorating and help us get rid of pent up anger. In excess, they can result in harshness in speech.
Astringent foods bring us back down to earth and contribute to a dry sense of humor. In excess, they can dull our interest in life.

Pranayama: 3 Breaths to Beat Stress
|
Here are 3
yogic breathing techniques, or pranayama, that will activate your
body's relaxation response and quiet your mind during times of stress.
The Yogic breath:
Sit with your neck, head, and spine in alignment. Place your hands on
your chest and breath in and out through your nose, feeling your chest
expand. Repeat 3-4 times. Now place your hands on your belly and inhale
through your nostrils, letting your belly expand with air. Exhale
through your nose and press in slightly with your hands. Repeat 3-4
times. Next, place your left palm on your chest and your right palm on
your belly. As you inhale through your nose let your belly expand and
then bring your breath up into your chest, feeling your ribs expand.
Exhale through your nose, releasing your breath from your chest, then
your stomach. Repeat 3-4 times. Now close your eyes, rest your hands on
your lap, and repeat 10 times.
Alternate nostril breathing:
Place your right index finger and middle finger on the bridge of your
nose. Close the right nostril with your thumb, inhale and at the top of
the inhalation, close your left nostril with your ring finger. Release
your thumb and exhale through the right nostril. Inhale through the
right nostril and at the top of the exhalation close the right side
with your thumb. Release your ring finger from your left nostril.
Repeat 6-12 times.
Left nostril breathing: Close your
right nostril with the thumb of your right hand. Breathe in through
your left nostril and out through your left nostril. Repeat this 10-20
times.
