Are you and your significant other seeking a
romantic getaway? It's a great time to connect with your partner away from the
stresses of work, children, bills, and all the things that can manage to get in
the way of genuinely communicating with your partner. With options as varied as
a weekend getaway a few miles from your home, to a romantic two-week tour of the
Italian wine country, couples vacations are a valuable way to spend vacation
time, regardless of your budget, interests or time constraints.
Once you've narrowed down possible vacation destinations and budgets with your
partner, visiting a travel agent will help streamline the planning process.
Seeking the help of a travel agent will lower the stress of planning your trip,
and often will save you money, too. If you're having a difficult time deciding
on the kind of vacation you'd like to take, the travel agent will be able to
make suggestions -- like referring you to a couples-only cruise, a local
romantic getaway, or an all-inclusive vacation spot. Be honest about your
interests and your needs, and your travel agent should be able to come up with
a few suggestions you and your significant other are crazy about.
If you're planning a couples-only vacation and have concerns about leaving your
children behind, consider the fact that children are happy when their parents
are-- they'll miss you while you're gone, but they'll benefit from the
recharging, rekindling, and reconnecting between their parents too-- happier
parents have happier kids. But if you're still not convinced, talk with your
travel agent about special vacations designed for couples who are vacationing
with children but want some alone time, too. Vacation destinations with social
directors for children provide childcare and fun activities, keeping your
children entertained and happy while you and your partner enjoy some valuable
one-on-one time.
Finally, remember that when you're seeking extra time with your partner, even
whisking them away for an overnight stay in a suite at a local hotel can do wonders
for your relationship, so start thinking today about how you and your partner
should spend some quality time together, or visit your travel agent, and you'll
be well on your way to a romantic getaway.

You arrive at your vacation destination halfway
across the world and you're exhausted, but you can't sleep -- making it days
before your body readjusts and you feel like yourself again. Sound familiar?
It's jet lag, and a bad case of it can render you feeling out of balance for
days --definitely not how you want to spend the first part of your vacation! Luckily,
you can take steps before, during, and after your transcontinental flights to
prevent the dreaded "one day per time zone" recovery period.
Not surprisingly, the game plan for beating jet lag begins before you're even
navigating through the airport terminal to get on your plane. The primary cause
of jet lag is dehydration, so 24 hours before your flight start drinking as
much water as you can. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which will dehydrate your
body, and focus on drinking water-- your body will soon thank you. While you're
in the air, keep drinking water. You may feel like an inconvenience continually
asking the flight attendant for water, but don't worry- that's what they're
there for! If you feel really bad about it, though, simply ask for a few cups
of water at a time.
Exercise during and after your flight is a crucial part of keeping your body
and mind feeling alert, strong, and capable of fending off jet lag, so during
your flight try and get up from your seat every one or two hours, even if it's
just making a few trips up and down the aisle. During layovers, take advantage
of the opportunity to stretch your legs by walking around the airport-- every muscle
of your body will thank you for it, and it's a great way to spend your time-moving,
instead of sitting around waiting for your flight to arrive. When you arrive at
your final destination, try and spend as much time outside as possible-- you'll
get exercise, oxygenate your blood, and stimulate your endorphins. In fact, studies
have shown that the more time you spend outside when you arrive at your new
destination, the more quickly your body will adjust to its new environment.
As difficult as it may be to not catch a little nap, when you arrive at the new
location try and wait until nightfall before you sleep. Wake up the next
morning, make sure you stay hydrated, and go out and enjoy the new city you're
in. You've worked to prevent jet lag and
succeeded, so now it's time to focus on the business at hand--- enjoying
yourself!

Puerto Rico, often
called the "Land of Enchantment" by natives, enjoys an average
temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the ideal island
getaway, and with its status as a Commonwealth of the United States,
you don't even need to have a passport to enjoy all the island has to
offer. Travel to El Yunque, a tropical rainforest that is home to 239
species of plants, 39 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 16
different species of birds; or hike La Cordillera Central (The Central
Range), Puerto Rico's mountain range. If a running tour of a new city
is more your style, lace up your running shoes and compete in The
World's Best 10K, ranked among the top 20 competitive races globally.
Of course, no visit to Puerto Rico is complete without a tour of
beautiful, historic San Juan, the second oldest European-established
city in the Americas. Here you will find colonial buildings, streets
paved with adoquine (blue stone brought over as the ballasts of Spanish
ships), restaurants, museums, and art galleries.

Finding Great Vacation Lodging
|
Your travel agent can help you find the perfect
lodging for your next vacation, but first you'll need to decide the basics of
what you're looking for: from ambiance and location, to pricing and amenities.
First of all, what kind of ambiance interests you? a 5-Star Resort with
turn-down service, a rustic cabin with no TV or internet, or a secluded
bungalow on the beach? Often the ambiance of lodging suits the location of your
trip-- if you're headed to the mountains you may be more inclined to want to
stay in an old-fashioned cabin with a front porch and a hammock; but if you're
headed to New York City, a hotel will be your only option if you want to stay
inside the bustling city. Lastly, consider the amenities your vacation lodging
must have. If you need to have 24-hour internet access to regularly check in
with work for example, you'll want to find a hotel that has wireless internet
throughout. Others are loyal to amenities such as complimentary breakfast,
same-day dry cleaning service, and in-room Jacuzzis. Regardless of the unique
combination of ambiance, location, pricing, and amenities you're seeking in
vacation lodging, your travel agent will help you find the perfect
accommodations.

It's Not the Destination- It's the Journey: Adventure Travel
|
The
term "adventure travel" may sound strange to you if you consider all
travel to be an adventure. Yet, scores of travelers are now embarking on travel
that's less about relaxing and more about pushing one's limits, whether it's a
rafting expedition or a bike tour through Europe. If adventure travel sounds
like your idea of the perfect vacation, first think about your level of
adventure, and decide on a destination. A travel agent will help you find an
adventure travel excursion that's perfectly suitable for your level of
adventure, your interests, and your budget.
Before you get too caught up in your upcoming trip, make sure you do your
research. You'll want to be aware of the climate of the region you're
going to, the level of seclusion from phone, email, radio or TV you're
comfortable with, and the physical requirements of adventure travel. If you're
planning on trekking through Nepal with some friends, for example, you'll want
to have similar expectations and goals for the trip. Many adventure travel
companies specialize in offering travel possibilities to specific groups, so
whether you're a senior citizen, fresh out of college or still working on your
undergrad, you'll be able to plan the adventure travel vacation of your dreams --
while still staying within your financial, physical, and mental limits.
