Part of the magic behind Feng Shui is to send the right message to your subconscious, so that you can attract the life (and love) that you want. It's difficult to foster a long lasting committed relationship when one of you is hogging the closet, or your bed is pushed against the corner - signaling that one of you is cornered and has to go through the other person's space to access sanctuary. If you are looking to improve your romantic relationship with your partner, or perhaps you desire to find "the one", focus your attention on two main areas of your home: The bedroom, and the Relationship section of your home. This section of the home is the extreme right corner, as found by standing in the front door, facing in.

In the Bedroom:
The Room: No TV! Keep the focus on rest and intimacy by keeping the electronics out. Even if it is just you, watching a TV in your bedroom kills the feelings of romance - try swapping it for some juicy novels or poetry, and don't be surprised at the shift in your love life. Additionally, make some space in the dresser and closet, and keep family pictures out of the bedroom.  As much as you love your children, there are times and places that their photos are not suitable.

The Bed:  A queen size bed promotes more intimacy, by making you a bit closer - which is great on those chilly nights! Add some sensual and attractive bedding, as sleeping on Grandma's old sheets does not foster a feeling for the romantic! Satin sheets, velvet pillows, and cozy blankets are all luscious additions to the bed. If you're single try these two tricks: keep your bed centered on a wall and sleep only on one side of the bed. Before you know it, you won't be sleeping alone.

The Relationship Area:
Seating: Cozy seating arrangements that foster connections, such as love seats and comfortable seating facing each other are essential to attracting romance, or boosting levels of intimacy in an existing relationship. Single chairs say "there's only room for one!" - so move those to a different area of the home.

Décor: Replace figurines, paintings, and photographs of singular people with happy couples or romantic scenery. You also want the lighting to be soft and inviting, staying away from harsh overhead lighting. Bring some wood elements in, as wood symbolizes connecting.

One last tip: When you are trying to boost your romantic karma, the easiest way is to bring in the right colors. From baby pink, through the spectrum of reds, and into refined burgundy, there is a surely one or two that are right for your home. Paint a wall or two, and find accent colors that complement your selections. A rich burgundy is accented well with a soft baby pink - or you might opt for a striking combination of fuchsia and crimson.

Inviting romance into your life, or strengthening an existing relationship, is something that takes time, as well as a change of attitude towards life. Following these simple steps will help you open your awareness about your love life, and will set the stage for the next level. Enjoy it!

The practice of Form Feng Shui is not common today, however, it was once one of the most revered disciplines of Feng Shui, and is respected as one of the oldest practices in the Feng Shui tradition. As the name may suggest, Form School Feng Shui uses shapes and forms of the surrounding environment as an indication of how energy will affect the inhabitants of a particular location. Form School Feng Shui was often used to locate appropriate palace, temple, or village sites based on the surroundings. Landscapes, buildings, roadways, and water features are all considered, with the aim to have the four elements represented in a specific, balanced way.

The four elements are represented by four animals: The Black Turtle of the North, The Red Phoenix of the South, The White Tiger of the West, and the Green Dragon of the East. The placement of the door would typically be to the south, with a path, road, or low-line of hedges or fencing that crosses perpendicular to the home, to represent the red Phoenix. Behind the home, a cozy secure feature, representing the black turtle would be found - this could be a large hill, a mound of trees, a fence, or a larger building. The White Tiger of the West and the Green Dragon of the East might be represented with small outlying buildings, low-lying hills, trees, shrubs, or other homes -with the Tiger being lower than the Dragon.

Form School Feng Shui is both an intricate and ancient practice, and is not always practical to apply in our modern times. You might consider talking to your Feng Shui specialist about incorporating some of these features in your home, or, if you plan on building a home, discuss your options with your Feng Shui consultant and home builder, if this type of Feng Shui appeals to your sensibilities.

At the heart of Feng Shui, is the goal of achieving balance. Regardless of which discipline you opt for, Feng Shui incorporates inner and outer aesthetics to harmonize and improve your life. When clients consult with a Feng Shui Master, they typically seek to improve upon specific areas of their life, and may not know about other ways Feng Shui can impact them.

Here are some surprising, and perhaps, not so surprising things that Feng Shui can have a positive impact on:
  • Wealth: boost the positive flow of income, accumulate wealth, and increase sound financial management.
  • Family: Strengthen family ties, attract or extend your current family, and bring more harmony into the family.
  • Children: increase their self-confidence, soothe troubled kids, or reduce sibling rivalry.
  • Romance: Attract new romance, enliven current romantic relationships, and increase intimacy.
  • Relationships: Non-romantic relationships need love too! Boost friendships, improve your network, and strengthen relationships in all aspects of your life.
  • Career: Get recognition, move up the career ladder, and find the career that fulfills you.
  • Education: Improve academic success, study more efficiently, or increase education opportunities.
  • Fame: Get recognized, become well known, or develop extra charm and charisma.
  • Health: Boost your health, increase longevity, lose weight, eradicate bad habits, and ward off illness and disease.
  • Self: Reduce stress, improve inner harmony, find more time, and quell fears and insecurities.
Feng Shui can bring harmony and balance to every aspect of your life, making you feel calmer, more successful, and more joyful. Perhaps you want to improve one of these areas, or simply achieve a peaceful feeling. Whatever your goals, Feng Shui can most assuredly help!

Directing the Chi: Plants & Rugs

Not all of us are willing to rearrange walls and replace furnishings to achieve optimal results. While these things may be recommended for the perfect balance in your space, there are some simpler, and more affordable things you can do to alter the flow of energy in your space, like adding plants and rugs.

Rugs: Consider color, shape, texture, and size, as these will all affect the impact of your rug. For example, using water colors of blue or black will boost the affect of the water element wherever you place it. The Texture also affects the elemental impact of the rug - silk and synthetics draw more fire energy, whereas cotton and linen bring the wood element.

Plants:  Using live plants will encourage wealth, prosperity, contentment, and health, while purifying your indoor air from the pollutants. Plants, when strategically placed, slow down the current of chi, and can redirect it- softening the space, and promoting harmony. Beware of placing large plants in the middle of the room, as this creates an obstruction to smooth energy flow, which is the goal of any balanced Feng Shui home.

Car Harmony

Perhaps when you think of Feng Shui your car doesn't come to mind, but it should. Statistics demonstrate that Americans spend an average of 5-10 hours per week in commute time alone. With that much time trapped in our cars, we should take some time to make the cars work for us. Here are 3 things you can do to boost your car Feng Shui:

1. Clean it out. As with the home, dirty, cluttered cars can attract negative energy - not particular something we want in a car. Remove trash and debris, wash the exterior and interior of the car, vacuum the carpets, and organize essential car items. Be sure to wash the windows so they sparkle. Consider a detail job, to get you jump started.

2. Add Water. The water element incites mental clarity and flow - both key components of traveling! Keep a small water element piece or a bottle of water in your car.

3. Protect your car. Some protective articles include dragons, rhinos, and bells. There are many things you can do to clear negative energy from your car as well, which will impact the protection of your car. Try using the scents of sage, cedar, or sweet grass to purify and protect.

Feng Shui Elements: Wood

The element of Wood is creative and innovative, sociable and community minded. Wood also represents the color green,  the birth of new life and renewal in general. Relatedly, it is associated with spring, and the color green. To add this beautiful element into your space, try bringing in a variety of greens, plants, driftwood, depictions of wood, or wood figurines, sculptures, or furnishings.
