How HIE Can You Go?

"I feel like I had this breakthrough with hooping...I was able to see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 steps/moves ahead and I understood the transitioning process and that has been due to the intermediate class and its focus of transitioning." - K. Reyes, City of Commerce, CA

"I Did It!!!" - Achieving Success in 24 Hours
A Story by Kim "The Kinesthetic" Wilkinson"

hoop silhouetteI came home tonight and as I was walking my dogs I had a little epiphany.  I kept thinking about how it felt to swing the hoop on my arm and trying to imagine what that would feel like on my waist and it occurred to me that I'm trying to push the wrong way with my hips--I was going with the hoop instead of against it and that was why I kept feeling like I was frantically bumping into it.  So I gave it a try as soon as I got back in and it worked!  Of course I got so excited and was squealing "I'm doing it! I'm doing it! I'm doing it!" and distracted myself but I kept it up for about 12 revolutions which is at least double of my best one before that!  I was able to do this several times but it keeps bouncing up above my chest for some reason.  I'm definitely on the right track though. Thank you for the words of encouragement Cat.  I must admit I was a little bit discouraged last night as so many folks seemed to get it so instinctively and I felt like the clumsy girl in the corner of grade school gym again. I've never been a fast physical learner, but I'm determined and usually if I put my mind to something and practice, practice, practice I can get it.

Kim, I think we can all relate to "the clumsy" inner child at least once in our life. Great job and keep rocking your hoop Kim!

Things are heating up quickly this spring, and what's even hotter than rising temperatures? Men in the hoop! This month we'd like to honor the Males of hooping! Yes, the boys with the big bad toys are also man enough to be in-touch with their feminine side. The art of hooping provides powerful movement for males of all ages and hours of fun! So guys and gals get that Kundalini rising in a new way and go ying-yang on your hoops!

Tell Hoopadelic and fans what you're up to in the hoop whirled by sharing your stories or the story of others. We would be honored to feature it in our newsletter. Please send submissions, along with a clear photo, to info@hoopadelic.com

Inspiration of the Day...

How we treat eachother, how we communicate, what principles we base our actions on are reflections of how we perceive Love, God, Ourselves, our Universe. Apply this to your hoop practice. How do you perceive your Universe? What would you speak through your dance? Who would it be for and where in You would it come from?

Beyond Hooping - Jill Bolte Taylor: My Stroke of Insight
Courtesy of TED Talk

heart brainHoopadelic is about transcendence (trance-send-dance) through hooping, you know, that wonderfully blissed out state of euphoria... In taking a more Earthly view on the topic, this month we ask, is the science of hooping separate from the spirituality of hooping? We feel the two are different sides of the same coin. Recently, the signs for us to pay more attention to the scientific aspects of transcending have been orbiting around us. This week, the guided message is to observe the brain's function as hemispherical parts in relation to movement. The theme has simply been popping up for us this past year so I invite you on this journey as well. The most recent message came last night when a friend sent this video. It was just Amazing to witness. Hearing Harvard brain scientist, Jill Taylor, speak of her transcendental self-observation of struggling between two states of being, while in the midst of a stroke, was just astonishing. Clearly Taylor's talk is not about hooping, but her moments in bliss reminds me of what hooping is about - a trip through Love, Divine energy and undying curiosity about our place in this magnificent multidimensional universe. Together as One, we are all an imperial part of this community of luminary hoopers and I hope you enjoy this video as much as I have!

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another. Watch Video
