Y'ALL:
Home from road and about to go into studio.
Been working in
studio this past weekend, co-producing (w/ Andy Baker) next Don Chambers
album. His new songs are fantastic, definitely his best yet, and the band
is SMOKING.Working with Andy is always a treat too.
We started our next DBT album on June 11 (1
day after our 11th birthday as band). Lots of new songs to cut, including
a couple written in last week.
Tour dates, just added, will keep us busy
through July, including a handful of TDU dates. On a couple of them, we
plan to begin show with acoustic set, then morph into The Rock Show. That
should be lots of fun.
Just received new Centro-Matic EP (Operation
Motorcide) which is fantastic. They just continue to amaze me everytime
they get together. I think it was released on a Spanish label but I know
its out on iTunes and I highly encourage all to check it out.
Been reading "It Came From Memphis"
which was written a few years back by Robert Gordon and explores some of
the lesser known histories of Memphis music. Incredible read and highly
recommended.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE A.
JOHNSON. He's my Great Uncle and inspiration of my song "Sands of Iwo
Jima." he turned 87 the other day.
See you soon at The Rock Show, The Swamp Show
and the Combination Shows.
Best ALWAYS, Patterson Hood Drive-By Truckers

Will
Johnson, Movie Star!
The DBT and Centro-Matic are tight, as any DBT fan well knows.
Centro-Matic has played with DBT at their New Year's shows for several
years now, and is an all-time favorite band of everyone in the entire DBT
family.
Well, Centro-Matic's front man Will Johnson is a
multi-talented man - actually, all the members of that band are - but
Will's got a part in a new movie coming out, called Salt Creek County.
Looks funny as hell. Check it out - Click the Video Link - and keep an eye
out for a release date.

Spooner
Oldham Y'ALL:
|
|
Everyone has seen The Godfather (I hope at
least a time or two) and knows that a man can't turn down a request on the
day of his daughter's wedding.
With that said, last weekend I was in memphis
attending the wedding of my dear friend Roxanne Oldham. Her father is
Spooner Oldham, who has played keyboards on some of my favorite records
ever made. Spooner and my father have played together off and on for 40
years. His is that incredible Wurlitzer part that begins Aretha Franklin's
"I Never Loved A Man (The Way That I Love You)." He also played
on "Do Right Woman" and has co-written some of the greatest
songs ever recorded. He has additionally toured and made records with Bob
Dylan and Neil Young. Last summer he toured with Crosby Stills Nash and
Young. He also played keys on "When The Pin Hits the Shell" on
our Decoration Day album.
We had decided some time back that we wanted
him to record again with us this summer. With that in mind, last weekend
we asked him to come out with us on THE DIRT UNDERNEATH TOUR.
Additionally, John Neff is all fired up and
ready to do some double duty on guitar and pedal steel on our upcoming
shows and the next album. He and Shonna will both be stepping up to the
mic to help with harmonies and such.
Spirits are high all around, as the songs are
continuing to come together and everyone is thrilled and excited to begin
this next chapter of the continuing saga that is Drive-By Truckers.
While you're waiting for our new stuff - enjoy our performance
