The Little Mermaid Auditions!
Dancing bubbles, enchanted mermaids, magic sea
flowers and glowing eels are just a few of the exciting characters that
will dance across the stage in the new ballet The Little Mermaid!
The Little Mermaid will be presented by the newly formed Red Rose
Civic Ballet (see next article). Elise Ericksen will be producing and
directing the production. Auditions will be held on January 13th at the
Collins View Dance Center, 318 SW Palatine Hill Road in SW Portland. All
who audition will receive a part, but attendance to the audition is very
important. If you are interested in participating, but cannot come to the
audition please call as soon as possible.
The Audition Schedule
1:00 - 1:30 ages 5 - 7 (beginning/pre-ballet, also pre-approved 3 or 4
year olds may audition at this time)
1:30 - 2:30 ages 7 - 10 (beg and int levels or ballet 1 and 2)
2:30 - 3:30 ages 10 through adult (int and adv levels or ballet 3 and
higher)
3:30 - 4:00 pointe work for all advanced dancers
We are looking for as much parent participation on stage as possible,
so if you would like to be a part of the production just let us know. As a
parent dancer you do not have to audition, just sign up!
There is a suggested $5.00 donation for the audition class.
There is no experience necessary to be a part of the ballet.
By February 1st all children participating in the ballet must be
enrolled in a ballet class at the school of their choice. (A few
exceptions will be made, if you have a concern please call.)
The performance date is scheduled for Saturday, April 21st at the
Multnomah Arts Center Theater in Multnomah Village.
Rehearsals will be at the Collins View Dance Center, 318 SW Palatine
Hill Road. The rehearsals will be held every Saturday between January 13th
and April 21st and they will be between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Depending on
your part the rehearsals will vary. A rehearsal schedule will be available
at the auditions. Dancers may miss a rehearsal, but all absences must be
excused. The dress rehearsal on Friday April 20th is mandatory.
The cast list will be posted on the website before midnight on Sunday
January 14th.
There will be small production and costume fees of $30 each. The
production fee will help to cover the cost of the rehearsal space and
theater as well as sets and props. The costume fee will go towards the
creation of the costumes. Although all parents are encouraged to volunteer
there are few key roles that will require more time and energy. For these
roles there will be a break in the fee.
Costume Mistress: No costume fee
Stage Manager: No production fee
Set-Up/Strike Manager: No production fee
Also for a second child in your family there is a reduced fee of $20
and parents may participate for free.
