JULIAN MARLEY'S ALBUM AWAKE ON iTUNES!
Source: The Jamaica Observer
Artiste Julian Marley currently has the second most downloaded reggae album in America, but the album released this week, has yet to tick onto the Billboard charts.

His album Awake is number two on iTunes US reggae album charts. His father, reggae icon Bob Marley, is number one in that market and most other European iTunes markets. Julian Marley is not fussy about chart success. "Anything it do we would be grateful," he told the Sunday Observer earlier this month.

The US iTunes chart (among the internet's most popular music stores) has five Marley entries in the top 10. Indeed, Julian beat his brother Ziggy Marley, whose Family Time album now sits at number four on the chart.

He, however, fears that radio would not play the lead single, which speaks about ganja as a sacrament, due to increased policing of the airwaves.

The song is tagged on iTunes as explicit, even though there are no "four lettered words" except "herb" in the song. He thinks a similar response could occur locally.

The bleeping of songs are no longer allowed since February, when the Broadcast Commission (BC) issued directives aimed at curtailing on-air explicit lyrics. BC directives speak to guns and sexually explicit lyrics but not ganja.

Following the BC directives, president of Greensleeves records Olivier Chastan argued that the BC' restrictions could impact on artiste creativity; self-editing in order to secure airplay. He says that artistic freedom enables creativity.

CHEF MAYRA’S WHY HEMP IS SO USEFUL!
Hemp, The Food of The Future!

Hemp foods are expanding onto the shelves of grocery and natural food stores across North America. By definition, these are foods containing whole hemp seeds or the oil, nut (hulled seed) and/or flour (ground seed cake) derived from the seeds. Examples of currently available hemp food products include salad dressings, nutrition bars, breads, cookies, granola, waffles, nut butter, chips, pasta, frozen deserts and cold-pressed oil supplements.

These products are sold for much more than their "hemp cachet"alone; manufacturers promote hemp foods for their exceptional nutritional and taste benefits. Examining the composition of hemp seed will help explain these benefits.

Like other oil seeds, the hemp nut consists mainly of oil (typically 44%), protein (33%) and dietary fiber and other carbohydrates (12%, predominantly from residues of the hull). In addition, the nut contains vitamins (particularly the tocopherols and tocotrienols of the Vitamin E complex), phytosterols and trace minerals. Overall, hemp's main nutritional advantage over other seeds lies in the composition of its oil, i.e. its fatty acid profile, and in its protein which contains all of the essential amino acids in nutritionally significant amounts and in a desirable ratio.

Most oil seeds contain plenty of linoleic acid (LA), an essential fatty acid (EFA) from the "omega-6" family, yet they offer little alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the other EFA from the "omega-3" family. Health agencies around the world agree that humans should ingest these EFAs in an omega-6/omega-3 ratio of about 4:1. Since common seed oil and animal fat, both low in omega-3, account for most of our fat intake, Western diets typically have omega-6/omega-3 ratios of 10:1 or more, which is far too rich in omega-6 and correspondingly too deficient in omega-3. Recent clinical research continues to identify this imbalance as a co-factor in a wide range of common illnesses, including cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, diabetes, skin and mood disorders.

A 1999 workshop by the U.S. National Institute of Health (see http://ods.od.nih.gov/ news/conferences/w6w3_abstracts.html) demonstrated the impressive benefits of a balanced omega-6/omega-3 ratio in our diet: reduced risk of atherosclerosis, sudden cardiac death and certain types of cancers, decrease in the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, mood improvement in bipolar disorders and optimized development in infants.

In clinical studies, these benefits are often achieved using omega-3-rich fish and flax oil supplements.  A more "holistic"approach consists of shifting our general dietary fat intake towards nuts and oils offering a better omega-6/omega-3 ratio. Hemp nut and oil offer an omega- 6/omega-3 ratio of 3:1 or less, depending on plant variety.

This exceeds the target ratio of 4:1 and compensates in part for omega-3 deficiencies in the rest of our diet. No other vegetable oil offers EFAs at such high concentrations and, more importantly, in such a desirable omega-6/omega-3 ratio. Hemp oil also provides significant amounts of the more rare 'super' polyunsaturated fatty acids, notably gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA). These are not essential themselves, but our body only naturally produces them from the LA and ALA essential fatty acids, respectively.

Supplementation with GLA and SDA appears to alleviate the symptoms of atopic dermatitis and other skin diseases in some patients. Clinical trials of the putative benefits from ingested hemp oil are currently under way at the University of Kuopio in Finland to assess the extent of these potential benefits. GLA and SDA content in hemp seed vary considerably with variety and this needs to be considered when using hemp oil to treat such symptoms.

Hemp oil typically contains less than 10% saturated fatty acids, and no trans-fatty acids, which are particularly detrimental to our blood cholesterol balance. To avoid conversion of polyunsaturated fatty acids to unhealthy peroxides at higher temperatures, hemp oil and nut are best used for cold and warm dishes where temperature is kept below the boiling point(212° F). Hemp oil should not be used for frying. When using it for light sautéing, keeping the pan at low heat and with sufficient moisture in the bottom limits both temperature and the formation of peroxides and off-flavors.

Hemp has a distinctive, nutty taste and I personally love it in muesli. There's hemp seed in Rude Health's essential muesli but you can always sprinkle your own seeds over a cheaper brand!

Hemp nut can be lightly toasted and baked in bread and pastry dough keeping in mind these temperature and moisture caveats.

Hemp protein is also of exceptionally high quality in terms of amino acid (AA) composition and protein structure, the latter affecting digestibility and utilization by the human body. Hemp protein contains all of the essential amino acids in more nutritionally significant amounts and at a ratio closer to "complete" sources of protein (like meat, milk and eggs) than all other oil seeds except soy. Hemp protein consists of two globular proteins, albumin (33%) and edestine (67%), with a structure very similar to proteins manufactured in our blood and is thus readily digestible.  Hemp protein appears to be free of anti nutrients that are found in soy to interfere with protein uptake. So, eating hemp seed or nuts delivers protein with a favorable AA composition and in a structure readily utilized.

Hemp's nutritional advantage over other sources of fats and protein thus lies in its highly desirable balance of basic nutrients. Simply put, when eating hemp seed, nut and/or oil, our body obtains much of what it needs without the caloric ballast of non-essential nutrients. Yet, unlike fish and flax oil supplements and assorted protein powders, properly processed hemp seed offers these benefits with the additional bonus of a nice flavor profile - hemp tastes good.

Fresh cold pressed hemp oil and hemp nut, particularly when toasted, add a nice nutty flavor to many dishes and packaged food products. Hemp nut and oil therefore are attractive both nutritionally and culinary, rendering them truly modern food sources.

LEARN More facts about Hemp !!

Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is one of the few species of the plant kingdom, that was recognized for its numerous virtues thousands of years ago and thus has been cultivated ever since then. Hemp originates from Central Asia but has made its way through mankind into all different climatic areas of the globe: from zones with little sun and short cultivation periods to subtropical-tropical zones with a lot of sun and long cultivation periods. Therefore one will find cultivations of hemp all over the world in form of hundreds of different varieties and species. EASY STAR'S NEW SINGLE AND GLASTONBURY GIG!
EASY STAR ALL-STARS release new single She's Leaving Home - out July 6th and This summer is going to be a busy one for The Easy Star All-Stars who will be supporting the release of their recent album Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band with a new single, a trip round the festival circuit, the European phase of their Lonely Hearts World Tour that will take in the UK this August, and an extra-special trio of gigs at Glastonbury Festival!

The Easy Star All Star version of The Beatles 'She's Leaving Home' is a real taste of summer and should be the soundtrack to everyone's beach parties and picnics in the park. Besides being a superb summer song, Easy Star's version is a perfect example of the re-imagining this group has perfected over the course of three successful albums. The Beatles' version utilized an ornate and somber orchestral arrangement to accentuate their look at the generation gap and the bewilderment of parents losing their baby to the big, wide world; by setting the tune to a modified rock steady rhythm and by having a woman sing the lead, Easy Star's transform the song into an upbeat and empowering song, a warm sunsplash of reggae pop. The vocals come courtesy of band member Kirsty Rock whose gorgeous voice has previously been heard on both of the band's first two albums

This is the second single from their wonderful Easy Stars Lonely Hearts Dub Band album, released earlier this year, and will be available to download on to every discerning i-Pod on July 6.

Easy Star All-Stars have been booked for an unprecedented three completely unique shows at this year's Glastonbury Festival. Each night they will perform one of their albums on a different stage, kicking off with the dance stage, where they'll perform Dub Side Of The Moon on the Friday night, followed by the Park Stage (Radiodread) on Saturday night and then the big finale on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday, where 130,000 fans can watch them perform Lonely Hearts Dub Band.

ROBERTO GELL : : Midnight Ravers
Album available on:  iTunes, or search Roberto Gell, or Reggae4i.com

We're pleased to present - from the KRucial Reggae stable - ROBERTO GELL, with his song "Can't Tell." It's about holding steady in the face of the unpredictability of modern life. His whole EP is worth listening to - this is a fresh new artist to watch closely!

In March, Gell teamed up with WINSTRONG and DUB STATION for a minitour. Now, in July, Roberto's teaming up with Michael Fabulous - coming in from Jamaica - alongside his own I-Trinity band for a Southern California tour to include San Diego, Long Beach, Little Ethiopia, Santa Barbara, and Laguna Beach.

Truly blended, Roberto Gell's hybrid sound represents his Caribbean side (of the Dominican Republic) and his years of exposure to R&B; Hip Hop (where he got his start - and continues with his brothers - in the LIBRA PROJECT), and of course: Reggae. A serious Dread, Gell's well-read, both musically & spiritually. He practices what he preaches, and isn't afraid to share the stage (and studio) with likeminded, conscious Artists.

For more information on this artist and about how KRucial Reggae is promoting other Artists, call 617-771-5119. And visit www.Reggae4i.com <http://www.reggae4i.com/>

THE ITALS "LET DEM TALK"! Also Out On Tour, GIANT PANDA GUERILLA DUB SQUAD
Following the release of the retrospective “Ina Dis Ya Time” on VP Records last winter, The Itals have come back strong with an all new set of uptempo tunes on “Let Dem Talk,” featuring the finest studio musicians in Jamaica.

The album opens with the ska-liciously tongue-in-cheek It’s Not Easy, wherein lead singer Keith Porter confides he didn’t get his freedom today, he had to put it on layaway.  Who Reign is vintage Itals, praising the Father inna stately style. The album’s title track states, “let dem talk, let dem scandal my name”, a topical number about the endless empty talk that fuels the nightly news as well as the local sussa sussa.

Two Stingray Records’ dub rhythms are artfully adapted, first in Chill Out, an atmospheric plea to stop the violence so prevalent in Jamaica and around the world today, and then So Many Times explores the search for true love and peace of mind, rendered with a healthy dose of Itals’ harmonies.

The album’s first single, My Way High Way, bounces along before snaring you with it’s catchy hook line, showcasing Mr. Porter’s smooth vocals. There For Me is an inspirational anthem crafted with strong vocal harmonies, while Anything is one of two tracks co-produced by Tad Dawkins, characterized by tight syncopated rhythms and heartfelt vocals.Dawkins’ Hard Drugs rhythm reappears on No Mercy, where those spine-tingling Itals harmonies take front stage again, urging the listener to “meekly wait and murmur not” while waiting for the meek to grow strong.

True Love and It’s You are unabashed love songs, and don’t we all enjoy a good romantic story? This is lovers’ rock at its finest, with the emphasis on rock.  Also rocking, All Is Vanity teaches the lesson that “the unexpected happens every day, even when you pray.”

The album closes with a bouncing instrumental version of It’s Not Easy, leaving the listener tapping a foot and humming along with the horn parts long after it ends.  Available on iTunes and through  ebreggae.com

SERENITY
Peace of mind means feeling secure, and knowing that you're always provided for. Even if your logical mind cannot fathom how the challenge will be resolved, peace of mind means you trust in Jah to create a miraculous solution. This faith is always warranted because faith is the essential component for experiencing such miracles and being open to receiving the needed guidance.

In moments of quiet reflection, may you be assured that the peace of mind you seek is already within you. You can feel serene in the midst of turmoil. You need not wait until life is problem-free before you can experience happiness and peace. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Release the peace already inside of you and then watch your life change. Serenity is your natural state of mind.

Amen.
