A Note from Laurey
December 24, 2004

It's Christmas Eve here. The last of the orders are being picked up. The gang is leaving, headed off to various parts of the country. Jon and Emily and Adam are going to Baltimore. Kris is headed off to Ohio (I think.) Maurie is going to Raleigh. Karen will go to Florida tomorrow.

I’m headed to Colorado in the morning for my first Christmas with Chris and her family. We’ll be there for a couple of days and then we hop in a car and drive up to Yellowstone where we’ll be through the New Year. Can you imagine how beautiful it will be? We’re staying right at Old Faithful. I can’t think of a more spectacular place to be. (I’ll bring my camera and save some pictures to show you when I get back.)

This past year has been quite terrific, all in all. We settled into our new shop, worked out some kinks, got the word out about our “eat-in” business, and did some good imagining about the way things can go in the future. We had some fun parties right here in our Garden Room, including a dinner and cooking demonstration just the other night for a group of people from all over the United States. They loved their “Taste of Tuscany” – and so did we!

We doubled our gift basket business this year, which is a lovely thing. “Basket World” continued to be a bustling place, especially this past month. And our trip to the Fancy Food Show last summer was a big success too. Karen kept the shop looking sharp, displaying and redisplaying all the award-winning gourmet products that Adam and Emily and I found. We’re already planning next year’s season. (Valentine’s Day IS just around the corner, but that’s not important right now.)

At the beginning of January I am going to go to Corning Glass to take a one week long glassblowing class. Some of you may know that I’ve been dreaming of this for a LONG time and it is very exciting to me to know that I am going to actually see if I can learn this art. Well, START to learn it, that is.

We have two trips to Tuscany lined up. We still have two spots on the April trip and four in May if you care to join in. I just got a Christmas present from our Italian friends today and I’m very much looking forward to returning to that place which is so dear to my heart. (Remember the dream of Tuscan property? I still have it.)

So, my friends, thank you all so much for being such steady and loyal visitors. You make it fun to come to work every day (okay – almost all the time.) I will be doing a fair bit of travel this year, having told Chris that I will go to Seattle a few times, but, to calm your fears, I am not moving anywhere for some time. If you’re around you may get to see Chris, as she will be spending more time here. We’ll see if we can get her to cook a special meal every once in a while. She IS a terrific cook, you know!

Okay – time to go wrap the last presents. Merry Christmas, safe travels (“traveling mercies,” they say) and Happy New Year.

Ciao,

Laurey

So we'll see you next year!!!
