Noel's Handmade Handbags

We're having a Staff Craft Fair today (and throughout the coming week) and here are some fanciful hats that Noel, our chief office assistant, whipped up. She does the beading, the knitting, the felting - all of it! She also does stained glass and beads but, well, there is just not room for everything.

Come by to see what everyone has made.
Oh, a portion of the sales will go toward our gifts to a couple of local families. Thanks for helping us help them.

Holiday Coffee - and special tasting

This is Counter Culture Coffee's Holiday special blend. A lovely seasonal package, delicious flavored beans. Yum!

By the way - Counter Culture was recently named as one of the top 3 small coffee roasters in the whole country! Cool, eh? And, to give you the chance to sample some of their smaller, more special blends, the Counter Culture folks are going to be here on Friday, December 22 to do a "Cupping" which is a guided tasting.

I'll tell you more about that next week, okay?

Martha's Rugelach

Martha is one of our cooks but here are some pastries she made. Tucked into a cute mug, they're perfect as an accompaniment to a morning's cup of joe.

Dinners to go

Dinners, as you know, come with a freshly-made green salad, salad dressing of the day, and made-right-here bread of the day. We take reservations until noon or so. Please order by phone (252-1500), by FAX (252-02002) or stop in to speak to one of us in person.

As a reminder, every time you order a dinner to go you are eligible to enter our drawing. Just drop a card in our drawing jar (a business card works or fill out one of the cards that we have right here) and, at the end of the month, we'll pull one card which will be good for two free dinners-to-go.

Maybe you'll win next month.

Order a lot? Enter a lot!
Good luck!!

More cute tins. We have them just like this, right next to the cash register, and we also made up some mugs with tea and jam and mints for quick gifts. You might need something just like this. Who knows?

A Note From Laurey

December 9, 2006

Oh BOY it is cold here! The thermometer in my car read 14 this morning. I have gotten into the habit of starting the car and then scampering back inside to fold some sheets, waiting for the car to warm up. By the time I fold a load of laundry, the car is warm.

A few years ago I went on a dog sled adventure with some friends. We slept outside each night and lived completely out of any building for the entire week. Hard to believe it got down to 26 BELOW at one point. Fortunately we had chosen to be there and we were able to stay pleasantly comfortable, sleeping with a bottle filled with hot water that we’d tucked into a wool sock – a cozy companion for sleep.

At home these days my companions are Skipper the cat and Tye the dog. Chris is in Seattle right now so it is up to the three of us to keep each other warm and cozy. The other night, the first night of this cold, I came home after dark and immediately got a fire going in the wood stove. Skipper and Tye followed me around, insisting on dinner and then, more urgently, on companionship. Once the fire caught I sat down and was instantly graced by two glued animals – stuck onto me, tucked against my legs, one on each side.

The evening’s parade progressed into the den to watch some tv. The two both stood waiting as I settled in and then, wasting no time, both hopped up onto the couch and both humpfed and settled in, circling and then quickly dozing next to me.

My bath, an evening treat on cold nights, is not a solo time. Tye now likes to sit on the bath mat right next to the tub. Skipper lies down next to a heat vent on the floor. They doze once again, wait once again, stay ready once again.

And then bliss is theirs as I move with my entourage to bed. Pajamas on, pillow fluffed, cover arranged, Tye waits until invited and then hops up. Skipper has a mind of his own, not waitng for any invitation from me, though he usually waits until Tye is settled before he, too, hops up and does his kneading, pre-sleep action and then he, too, curls up.

These two are saving me these nights. I love their little warm bodies and I love their aliveness and their spirits. I am sorry that I am so active, because I know they’d probably rather I just stay put in one place, but I am happy that, really, they don’t seem to mind.

Life with them is very sweet. If they could read, I’m sure they’d be happy knowing they were in my note today.

Laurey's ornaments

I'm moving on to vases and tumblers soon but here are a few more glass ornaments. Actually, I may keep at them - they are so pretty and so magical and so fun to do. I made some green ones for our tree at home - what a thrill!
