We have the perfect space! |
Jaime is our sign artist. The message is a good one. Our cafe transforms easily into a lovely spot for small and medium-sized gatherings. This week we're hosting the first of the season's Holiday get-togethers. We've also enjoyed the weekly breakfast networking group's visits, the assorted rehearsal dinners, the impromptu lunches and the after-the-wedding brunches.
We might still have room for you. Give a call and we'll check.

We got your chocolate! |

Oh yeah. Too much to name individually. Come see is all I can say. The tables and shelves are full, ready. We're already making early holiday gift baskets and we'd be delighted to help you with yours.
You pick out what you like, we make it look fun. (And you can just ask us to pick things out too. We have some pre-set ones available - "A Taste of the South", "The Coffee Lover's Delight" and a bunch more.)

The parade comes to us! |
As promised, here are a couple of snaps of last week's Christmas parade. Due to construction in the center of our town, the parade route this year came right past our front door. FUN! The floats floated, bands marched, girls kicked and all was good.

The Unicycles on parade |
|
Santa hats on heads, single wheel underneath, the parading unicyclers made a fine show in front of our door. My unicycle sits at home, tire flat, imagination its only activity. The last time I tried it, I cracked my head on the floor and Emily told me that I was not allowed to try again. I might disregard her, but, well, not right now.

The kayaks float past |
We ARE in white water country and these kids' float promoted that aspect of us. Right after this gang paddled by I had to get back to work, but these couple of snaps give you the flavor of the day's magnificence.

A Note from Laurey |
|
November 29, 2008
I write from Kentucky today. My sister Lucinda's tradition is to let everyone go to their own family's homes and then, that out of their systems, to do it all again here on Saturday. So, for us, today, Saturday, is Thanksgiving.
The turkeys have just gone into the oven. My sister Heather's pies are assembled and are cooking, making the house smell like, well, Thanksgiving. I made a cake earlier today and have the knives all sharp, ready for my turn when the guests arrive and the buffet assembly is in process and the carving needs to happen. The tables are all set - 36 guest will be here in a few hours.
I came in last night with my Heather. Lucinda had us peeling things and cleaning things and making things from the moment we walked in the door. Pre-Thanksgiving spaghetti is the family menu of choice and I was recruited to take care of that. Lucinda was elbow deep in stuffing and broth and Heather had already started, five minutes after we got here, on her pies. No moss gathers here, nothing sits still long enough.
I've snuck away for a moment or two before the masses land. They'll come bearing my sister's suggestion for this year's feast. She reads cooking magazines all year long, folds down the pages of the things she'd like to try, and then hands out her assignments, after designing this year's menu. So right now all of tonight's guests are in their homes, making their addition to tonight's dinner. This tradition is now a long-standing one and I, along with all of them, feel the excitement of tasting all these things.
Heather has been rehearsing a special song. The cd player is loaded with dance music for Lucinda's contra dancing-loving friends. There will be singing, music, dancing and story telling. There will be a Wii fest too, courtesy of the son of one of Lucinda's friends. Last year I learned how to do Guitar Hero. This year I think the selection is "Rock Band" (four people get to play virtual instruments and wail away. Yee ha!) I'm looking forward to being the drummer.
I often become the dishwasher later on. Let me put it this way. My sister is a collector and she has full place settings for all of the 36 guests who are coming. Oh yeah. And someone, know what I mean, has to wash everything. But later, later for all that.
Right now, I think I'll go heat up some apple cider and sneak a bite of whatever I can. My niece and her husband will be here soon with the babies (pictures to follow next week) and I need to get this note out while things are still relatively calm here.
Thanks for the weekend off. We've all hda, or are having, a nice time with our families. We'll see you next Monday. Happy Thanksgiving, whether you're celebrating today or, like most people, this past Thursday.

Henry supervises |
Amazing to watch a baby grow. He's big enough now to sit up, supervise, cajole. We gaze, wishing we were still small enough to have a movable tray full of toys and a gaggle of adoring adults to chortle and praise us.
