Looking for a fine gift? |
Here's a swell idea (wish I'd thought of it myself...)
If you purchase $50.00 worth of gift certificates (i.e. one for $50 or 5 for $10, etc.) we will give YOU a Thank You card for $5.00 which you can spend here until the end of March.
Isn't that the way it should be? YOU buy and gift and you GET one too? Just check in with a "shopster" and you'll get fixed right up. |

If you come, please bring some cookies to share and also a gift card for my sweet friend and her family. Target. A grocery store. A certificate from us (now THAT'S a great idea!)... you choose.
Prepare to dance! Prepare to have fun. |

A note from Laurey |
|
December 18, 2010
Hiya,
It’s Christmas week! Zounds! I’ve got a lot to do before my sisters gather with me next weekend. How is it that I sometimes sit around doing nothing, wondering what to do and then, when I don’t have any time to do all the things I need to do, I have way too much to do? You’d think I’d remember, when I have all that open time, to do the things that I will not have time to do when the crunch is on. Sigh.
Last night I drove to Brevard and presented a Christmas dinner to a group for the 19th time! It is stunning to me to realize I have been in business this long, and I found myself rolling into the spirit of the holiday as we drove away from here, car filled with dinner. The very best part of this dinner is the people we serve dinner to. A tradition like this, their tradition, is mine too. I know all the people from their office, I know the children, and now the grandchildren too. We share stories of their family and mine each year, catching up, commiserating, comparing work stories, congratulating each other on our persistence in these troubling times. I always feel boosted by them and last night was no exception.
And then, part 2 of our tradition followed. After serving their dinner and washing all the glasses and packing up all our pots and pans, we tuck back into the car and head to (wait for it) The Cardinal Drive-In, where we get Vanilla malted milk shakes and horrifically greasy onion rings. We roll the window down for the gal to hand us a tray filled with our unhealthy but highly enjoyable snacks. And then we drive back to Asheville, munching and sipping.
Part 3, the last part of the evening, is all about driving back to the shop and seeing all the Christmas lights. My very favorite display, the one I pray will be there again each year, is the modest ranch house that is decked out with lights and illuminated reindeer and angels. Most importantly, the property is bordered with strings of old-fashioned colored lights that are each covered with an empty plastic gallon milk jug. The plastic makes the lights glow like frosty cubes and it is not a stretch to say that my Christmas evening is, after seeing them, complete.
Generally speaking we come back, unload, and head home. But last night Kris and I both realized we’d left our shop keys on our desks (oops!) so, after agreeing to unload today, I drove home with a full car and finished out a perfect evening by sinking into the heat of the water in the tub on my deck.
Tonight is our Comfort and Joy dinner and then, in a rush, it’ll be time to start thinking about 2011. For now I’m going to stop and think about last night and the reality of having spent the past 19 years with this Brevard family who are now my friends.
And that, for now, is enough.
Merry Christmas to you, all of you who are also my friends.
Merry Christmas. |

The most lovely Monsieur Henri!!!! |
Speaking of bacon, Henry came in for breakfast this morning with his sweet mom, Emily, and dad, Adam. Henry ate every bit of his French Toast and then enjoyed his side of bacon immensely. He dipped it, bite by bite, into the little ramekin of maple syrup.
I might serve that at the bacon dinner. Ya nevah know! |
