BRRR! I have started to add layers. Today I have a fleece sweater AND a fleece jacket. I’m glad to need them. Fall IS my favorite season (well, whenever the new season comes I am invigorated by the change.) By the time it turns into winter, that’ll be my favorite. Egalitarian, yes?
It has been a very good week, even great at times. Whew! I had big surgery a little more than two weeks ago and am finally pain-free. What a gigantic relief. I feel for anyone who has chronic pain – it really saps a girl. Today, though, I woke up feeling very close to my normal self. I have been out and have been seeing people and doing things and feeling pretty regular. There’s still a surprise on people’s faces when they see me – sort of like the double-take that Casper the Friendly Ghost elicited from unsuspecting folks in that cartoon of my youth. I take the looks to mean “Hey, you’re looking well!”
And even if I’m not, I’ll choose to accept the comment and believe I DO look well. I am certainly feeling pretty good and that’s nothing to sneeze at.
We’ve had a great week here. The team of folks here: kitchen, shop, office, delivery, service has done terrific work! You see the pictures of the big event last night. Tonight we have another big off-premises party and an in-house event right here. We’ve scooted all over the area, catering for long and short meetings, long and short workshops, big and small events everywhere. Go team!
Remarkably, most all of this has happened without me. I am not functioning at 100% by any means, needing a lot of rest and a lot of down time. And what an amazing thing that I can do that, can do what I need to do, knowing that things here are in perfect shape. Well, yes, tiny things happen, but everyone is pulling hard and is making it all go so very well.
And I have started inching back in. I have picked up the writing for my book again and am feeling good about feeling well enough to get back into it. Every day my thoughts are filled with my writing and with how to explain some of the parts of the book that need more of a creative writing direction. My bees seem to be doing very well, though their activity level is much more subdued with these chillier temperatures. But all I have to do is look out my window or sit in my driveway and there they are, doing their work, reminding me that we are important partners in this important project – very much of a life-giving one for me. That’s good.
And finally, a cute little note about my cute little dog. She has her own bed but often migrates to mine by morning. I’m happy to snuggle up with her warm weight. This morning, waking up early and listening for her I realized she was tucked in right next to my head, curled up on the other pillow at the top of my bed. No harm, no foul. Just a warm bundle, close enough to give a quick scratch to and share a good morning salute. (Did you know how much I love this dog?)
I hope all is well with you this week. Thanks for all your notes and cards. This week was also a bang-up week because I got TWO cards in the mail featuring a red bicycle. Suh-WEET!
