The Weekly Newsletter for October 29-November 2, 2012
Books and photos and November!

Working on the set up
We did the final shoot for my honey book this past Sunday.  Here is a shot of Charlotte tweaking the endive salad.  It still cracks me up that her most used tools are tiny scissors, tiny tweezers, and tiny little blotters.  I feel like a big oaf compared to her dainty and careful adjustments.

The final shot
And here's what it looks like when she is done.  Each piece of cheese is just perfectly placed, each endive spear has been positioned to capture the most shine and the most clarity possible.

Delicata and Kale
This is my version of a salad from my friend Annie.  Delicata Squash, roasted; Tuscan kale quickly blanched; bowtie pasta cooked to the perfect texture; toasted pine nuts, and feta crumbles.

This will be in the November chapter.  Nice hearty food for cold temperatures (like today!)

Texas Lemonade
Okay - switching back to Texas for a minute here.  When I was there last weekend it was HOT outside and, since soda and beer are off my current list, the search was on for something other than water.  I did drink a lot of water, but every once in a while a girl needs something more, um, potent.

I've been drinking this ever since I've been home and recommend it: lemonade and sparkling water.  Simple, sure, but oh so refreshing, even in cold weather.  (We make lemonade every day, you know, and we have sparkling water too.  Try it!)

Winter fruit-stuffed Pork Tenderloin (and our Thanksgiving menu)
Here's a snap of my stuffed pork tenderloin.  Nice, hearty fare.

Speaking of which - don't forget to order your Thanksgiving dinner with us.  We do the whole thing and give you easy warming instructions.  Why cook?

Here's the menu for this year:
Turkey with Fresh Herbs and White Wine
Mushroom Gravy
Red Skin Mashed Potatoes with Chives
Green Bean Casserole with Mushrooms and Crispy Onions
Butternut Squash with Kale
Jubilee Cranberry Chutney
Marty's Rolls
Pumpkin Pie or Pecan Pie or Apple Pie (choose a slice or get whole pies).

The entire dinner will be 25.95 (+tax)
Yes, you can buy just parts if you like. And you can get whole turkeys or just slices - depending on your preference.  Call us at 252-1500 to place your order.

Before the camera starts
Oh, and here, out of order, is what it looks like before the shot is done.  I prepare the parts, and Charlotte assembles them.  In this case, she did the preparation too, since I was busy at the stove.  (She is my guardian angel!)

I might have told you that I had not thought I needed a food stylist.  But now, when I am close to the end of my treatments and the affects are accumulating, it is SO terrific to  have her help.  I really don't think I could have done it without her.

A word or two from Laurey
Hiya, hiya.

Oof - here it is Monday afternoon and I am just now writing to you. My excuse?  I've turned into Rip Van Winkle, sleeping and sleeping and sleeping.  I've been told that the affects of treatment get more pronounced as one gets more of them and this seems to be my current truth.  Sigh.  Sorry for the tardiness.

So I'm home now, with the first fire of the season chugging along in my wood stove.  It is COLD outside and I'm happy to be inside, tucked in with my pup and the fire and you.  Hmm - maybe you're still at work...

It is amazing to think I am done with my book photography.  Charlotte and Johnny and I had five sessions.  And now all the pictures are done.  The next thing for me is to review the "first pages" which will come to me in December.  Did you ever imagine this was the process?  I didn't.  Well, actually, I remember my mother reviewing galleys, long pages with the entire book printed on them.  I still have some of them in a box.

Okay - I really need to go plunk myself in front of the fire.

By the way - please do try to vote early.  The polls will be crowded on election day and it is really important to vote.  Really.  Okay?  Okay!

I'll be in touch next week.

Sigh
Fortunately these were more than my impulse budget allowed.  I am happy to have a photograph of them, and maybe, if I deserve a big treat, I will buy them.  But I have a tendency to buy shoes and not wear them (crazy) so these would probably sit in my closet, unworn - though just looking at them makes me happy too.

But aren't they sweet!??
