Fun with scissors
We made a big mess in here yesterday but WOW did we have fun.  Alicia is a fine teacher and everyone agreed that they would like her to come back and do a repeat card class.  So shall it be.

We need to find the date but it will be in March.  Stay tuned.

The boook draws closer
I'm currently editing the "2nd pages" of my Fresh Honey Cookbook.  Nice!  I have to be especially careful to see what changes have been made and what typographical errors might still exist.  fortunately Story Publishing has discerning readers on the case too.  I tend to drift off and imagine cases of this book showing up at the shop.

Pretty darn soon, all things considered.  (It'll be in late summer....)

Don't forget
It is THIS Thursday.  Make big points by bringing our dinner home.  Or make a card.  Or pick up some chocolate.  Or just ask your special person to be your Valentine.

What do you have to lose?

A word or two from Laurey
February 11, 2013

Good morning my friends. PLEASE forgive me for not getting time to write to you over the weekend. I got caught up in setting up the Card Workshop and then, all day yesterday, making cards. By the end of both days I was beat, with no energy to write to you.

I feel sort of giddy this morning. It is mild and damp today, two of my favorite things. Reading reports of the blizzards up north, and the power outages makes me me feel grateful to live in this milder climate. Sure, we get blizzards but around here it is usually not until the daffodils are up. So far in my yard we only have crocuses. And warmth. It’s just fine with me.

I know I keep telling you about my book. I’m VERY excited! It is an unusual thing (for me, anyway) to see my words and thoughts put into print and then turned into a very lovely looking book! Yesterday Charlotte, the food stylist, was here for the card class and got to see her handiwork too. We chortled and chirped together. It is HARD to do this work and it is very sweet to see it coming together into a real book. Looks like the publication date is going to be in early September. Whee!!!!
Poke, poke poking along.

I’m teaching this week – focusing on things that are in season at this time of year in our area. Funny, this sort of thing makes me jittery. You’d think that I’d have it wired by now, but each class is different and each group is different and I TRUST it will be fine, but there is a bit of tightrope walking that goes along with teaching. I was talking with Alicia about teaching and she pointed out that the expression, “…and those who can’t, teach…” is really mis-spoken. Teaching is hard. No question about it. I still remember my high school typing teacher – one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He taught typing for years and years with cheer and with the realization that what he was doing mattered. He was right. It did.

And let’s see – well I need to go to a meeting right now and I’ve delayed long enough so I think I’ll just send this out and try to be more timely and more interesting (!?) next week. I’ll have stories by then. Probably.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you, by the way. Let’s all be each others’ Valentines, shall we?

Love, (I mean it)
Laurey

By the way - all the cards in this newsletter were made by our esteemed teacher, Alicia Keshishian.  Come join us the next time we do a class, okay?

Ride with us - May 19!!!
We're ALMOST ready to roll out the details of the first Annual JOYride for Livestrong at the YMCA of Asheville.  We're now meeting twice a week, planning, thinking, imagining, dreaming about what I hope will be a big fun day for all of us.

We'll have a kids ride (short), a twenty-five mile ride, and a 50 mile ride too.  We'll have celebrity riders, special entertainments, treasured sponsors, and a very fine reason to raise money.

Livestrong at the YMCA is a program for cancer survivors, a way to get back on one's feet after (or during) treatment.)  the program costs $515.00 per person to administer and is funded locally.  The Livestrong Foundation provides guidance but the funding comes from us.

Anyway - please save may 19th for us.  We'll have 'Virtual Teams" too if you just want to help fun the program but don't want to ride. I'll tell you more - soon.

Thank you.
